The Official Movie Thread

Problem is usually getting the execs to greenlight that kind of thing. Movies like Deadpool, Logan and Joker surely made it a bit easier to pitch darker/more fucked up/more adult comic films but just reading what happened behind the scenes on this one, not by all that much. The new director did manage to exclude all DCU crossover cameos in this new Batman (so Aquaman won't be randomly showing up or anything like that).

Oddball casting too, will surely piss some people off: Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Penguin. Some young dude as Riddler I've never heard of.
what. the. fuck. ugh

Arkham Asylum comic is perfect for a standalone movie.

too bad no movie they do will ever come close to that godly book. Grant Morrison's masterpiece imo and easily one of the best Batman books ever written.

I actually really like Zoë Kravitz but no Catwoman will ever be better than Michelle Pfeiffer.

Hathoway did a decent job at portraying Catwoman in a believable way I thought, kinda one of the great unsung support characters of the DC films.

Pfeiffer was great though, such a deranged depiction of Catwoman. I don't know that much about comic books but does anybody actually know if Burton based his Catwoman on anything specific or did he just Burtonize the character? I'm a huge fan of The Long Halloween and even though that came out after Batman Returns both depictions come across as very similar in spirit. Wonder if Loeb was influenced by the film?

Love the way Loeb's Catwoman has this great blend of sexuality and extremely deranged violence. It's much less romantic and more overtly pornographic.

First time seeing it believe it or not. Just saw Fred Williamson kick some punk in the balls and give another bozo a gut-punch knee to the head combo and then peel out in a van. This rules.

Wait until you see the chase scene with williamson! One of my favorite roles.of his. Robert Forester is great too

Vigilante was absolutely epic. What a trilogy of films man, are any of Lustig's other movies worth checking out besides Maniac, this and Maniac Cop?

Well the 3 mentioned are his best. Relentless is pretty good, Hit List is pretty good, Uncle Sam is a pile of hot garbage that could have been great but is so by the numbers and just kind of boring that it's hard to recommend. I still like it anyways though:err:

Dont think that Twitter dude is in line with the film. They clearly advance the social hierarchy

I’m not sure exactly what you mean or how the HR article contradicts the “Twitter dude.”

By “they advance the social hierarchy,” do you mean that the Kims ascend the social ladder? If so, it sounds like you think this means the stone does fulfill its symbolic promise of upward social mobility. I would disagree in the utmost. They ascend the social ladder through deception, lies, trickery, etc. In other words, their ascent is hollow—just like the rock. The tweet’s point is that their newfound status can’t last, since it’s founded on a hollow promise: the promise of guaranteed upward mobility within capitalism.
