The fucking man! Reminds me I need to check out that newer documentary he made called Boiled Angels, about cartoonist Mike Diana the first person to be convicted in the US for obscenity.

Watched this earlier today on Netflix. Liked it, definitely not a contrived/feelgood/cliché film about domestic violence. Zero happy conclusions to be found. Cheers to no country for highlighting it.
About to watch:
Don't think I've seen this since I was a kid tbh.

i feel like i'm the only person who had a fun time with uncut gems haha, ironically i found good time a lot more stressful. i think it's 'cause innocents are dragged into the latter whereas everyone in gems is so eccentric and scuzzy, it feels more movieish to me but in a good way. while in some ways it's the opposite to the zen of the beach bum the two films do have a great bizarre ensemble in common, pretty much all the side characters stand out as memorable to me: the playboy guy at the casino with his helicopter, that pair of jewy dudes who keep badgering sandler and getting fobbed off, bogosian and his increasingly irritated stooges, the ex who's seen it all before and is clearly very done with all of it, kevin fucking garnett, probably a bunch more i'm forgetting about rn. even the john amos cameo (star of good times lol) is funny.

it's good. their most ironic and provocative social critique (a bit too much so for my tastes but you may dig that) and their best looking movie. heaven knows what is cool as well, even has a burzum reference.
