The Verheovenfest continues with fucking Total Recall! Technically, it turned 25 on the first of last month but still, no talk of it? Its kind of a big deal if you ask me. I'm surprised that there hasn't been anything to mark the occasion like a screening or a Q&A. I get that Arnold, Stone and Verheoven have their own things going on but remember when Robocop turned 25 Peter Weller and Nancy Allen and even PV did a bunch on con's.
Prior to this past viewing, I don't think I'd actually watched the entire film since it came out on DVD in that nifty orange tin can made up to look like Mars, one of the very few instances I shilled out for gimmick packaging. Funnily enough, one of the other instances was the Basic Instinct DVD that came in an "ice" shaped box with an ice pick pen! Anyway... Back when the film first hit home video I literally watched it all the time. I even got the NES game!
Even though it had been too long, basically every frame of the film seemed as familiar as an implanted memory and as the old saying goes, it still holds up.
Start the reactor, appreciate and get your ass to Mars!
