Ayn Rand is dead hahahahaha
NOW WELCOME TO THE PROGRESSIVE ROCK THREAD.This is the thread where you talk about progressive rock whatever it is old prog like King Crimson or new prog like Porcupine Tree but no progressive metal.Save that for another time this is for talking about progressive rock.

Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite band.

My next two:

Genesis and Jethro Tull.

If anyone wishes to carry on a conversation about either of these bands, I'm game.

I would love to have a conversation on all of the bands you like.Im on the Prog Archives and listen to a streaming of Echoes by Pink Floyd which is my favorite song from them.I might listen to Genesis and Jethro Tull later. What do you think of The Wall by Pink Floyd Einherjar86?I have heard people talking about it having too many fillers but listing to 2 or 3 songs on it is not the point of the album. To listen to The Wall you must think it like reading a book or watching a movie because it a concept album.Once you got the story of it you will think it a great album. Also cool avater Einherjar86:)

A couple of bands I just recently tripped over that I was unfamiliar with are Starcastle and the Baker/Gurvitz Army. Bought them on vinyl because they had cool covers. Starcastle reminds me of Yes.

baker/gurvitz army are underrated as hell. theres a cool cd anthology that is just every studio song they ever released plus a few live tunes. its pretty cheap. imo ginger baker is the best rock drummer ever

Wow, I was drunk when I posted in this thread. Tull and Floyd actually have their own threads here, but I can't remember if Genesis does. Oh well, there's no such thing as too much conversation on any of those bands.

But to bring up another contender for one of the best progressive rock albums ever: In the Court of the Crimson King.

One of my favorite prog rock records.

That my favorite prog rock record too.I get the chills when hear I the titled track.

Besides the meh random section in Moonchild, it's pretty much awesome throughout. I like some others more due to having listened to those more but that's definitely a worthy contender.

My personal favorite I have mentioned here before is Crack The Sky. They were a bit different, some Beatles influence, they melded alot of styles and influences, sometimes quirky, sometimes heavy, great tangents thrown into the middle of many of their songs, sometimes even having a Broadway feel and/or sense of expression . Their first (ST- '75) and third (Safety in Numbers '78) albums I think were great, the second (Animal Notes) I like alot but it had to grow on me, probably the most Beatlesque.

Check them out on youtube if you want. I'd stick with the studio versions as any new footage is cheap and sounds like shit. Polumbo changed his vocal style and his voice isnt that great anymore. They did release a great live album back around 78 that proved they could get the job done but I dont see it in recent years. Kansas threw them off thier tour because they stole the crowd and I love Kansas, so thats saying alot.

All that said Im more into Kansas, Rush, CTS, Tull and the more progressive moments of early Alice Cooper than King Crimson, ELP, Yes and Genesis, not that I dont like them.

Heres Nuclear Apathy from Saftey in Numbers, if you have good sound from your computer unlike this laptop Im using, better yet try headphones, check out the bass work and bass/drum interchange. This gets pretty heavy dont let it fool you,the chromatic instrumental bridge was awesome in its day

Genesis Crimson Tull Floyd ELP blah blah blah... You all need to listen to Gentle Giant. A real man's prog band.

I'll try and find some good Youtube vids when I get home and don't have Youtube blocked by my workplace.
