The Tech Question Thread

Oh, I sent it back to Carl Thompson for some more fine-tuning. I didn't like how the F# sounded.

:loco:

speakers first ... and only speakers. might be enough. if not go from there.

I did this yesterday. All four of them. I'm convinced they sound *worse* than the stockers. Is that possible? They were only $25 each so I wasn't expecting much....but shit, I'd rather listen to nothing than have muddy, farty lows and completely missing mids.
:bah:

btw, here they are: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Speakers/G-Series/TS-G1643R

Not exactly the D-series speakers I had in the Ranger....which still sit unused on a table in the garage. Anyone want them? They ONLY fit Ford/Mazda :ill:

really thinking of buying a blu-ray player now that prices have dropped ($140 for the one I want)
for a few reasons:

- i want to keep buying movies once in a while for my collection as there are some great ones I have seen lately that I want to own in the best possible format. Antichrist, Inception, etc, etc.

- the one I want, this LG with wi-fi can stream Youtube, Netflix, etc, seamlesly. Great for the kiddie as she watches stuff here and there on my PC and I want her addicted to the big screen instead.

Did you end up getting this? I think I know the one youre talking about. My brother in law gave us an LG 1080p LED Tv for Jesusmass and I thought about getting an LG BD player to go along with it. Then I thought about how Greg got a PS3 as a BD player and then I just read Thanatopsis's post about his PS3 dying so fuck that.

Subaru head units are integrated into the climate control system, btw. Most newer cars are like that, as far as I can tell. Form over function *rolls eyes*

Fuck. After a short search on the outback forums I found Metra makes a decent faceplate that allows you to install an aftermarket head unit for maybe $20. I left my Pioneer head unit in the Ranger when I sold it because I didnt think Id ever be able to use it. Argh!

your bro-in-law? ... haha, i didn't get shit from mine, ... and i didn't even have an affair. :loco:

and yeah, didn't get an player either and probably won't. i am fine with marginal quality movies.

haha yeah, it was more for his sister. At least, that's what I hope.

Talk about marginal....I watch the majority of movies through instant Netflix on this 15" laptop haha

An LED for Xm-ass? Dayum son.

LOL @ the speaker bit.

edit: why the hell did you opt for Pioneer speakers? Also, you might wanna give them a bit to break in a little bit before judging them. There's no fucking way they should sound worse than garbage OEM paper-cone megaphones.

I've always enjoyed Pioneer's stuff.

I chose these in particular because they were the only ones I could find that were rated for 30W. Everything else was rated much much higher and I just couldn't see the stock unit being able to power them. Basically, had I realized I *could* install an aftermarket receiver, I would've built a nice system from the ground up. I wouldn't have bothered with $25 speakers.

Shit. That sucks. Whatre you going to do with it?

I still don't know. No electronics stores will touch it and Japanese Sony says it's American Sony's problem.

I'm guessing this problem came about because I kept my PS3 in a small place where it could get no real ventilation. When I played it, I took it out of there so it wouldn't overheat. However, one day this summer my mother-in-law was cleaning and accidentally turned the PS3 on and didn't understand how to turn it off. So it was in that small place in a Japanese house with no fucking air conditioning during the hottest summer EVER on record here.

I assume that's the day it got damaged the most. Amazingly it kept working for a few months after that until it just suddenly stopped and the YLOD flicked on. I can either buy a heat gun and try to fix it myself or wait until I visit the states again, bring it with me, and then send it to Sony to have them fix it for $150.

I'm so bored here that I've thought about getting a Japanese one.

my mother-in-law was cleaning

Hmm.

Microsoft won't repair mine for anything less than $99. It's 84 days out of warranty. EIGHTY FOUR DAYS and they wouldn't budge a dollar. And I took really good care of it. With my engineering background, I could tell the moment I took it out of the box in 2007 that it was crappily designed and that I would need to keep it as cool as possible. And LOL at the ventilation fans. They were louder than the games.

Fuck Microsoft. I've never had such a shitty product other than maybe my Samsung camera. OK, my 1989 Escort GT was the all-time worst machine ever produced but that's for another thread.

or an ex of mine that when she walked into the supermarket with me she stood in awe like it was her first time in one.

*Awaiting 89 Escort GT thread*

edit: It couldnt have been any worse than my 85 Subaru XT.

You had a Subaru XT?!?!?!?!?
wtf man? You never mentioned that! Those things were like tiny little spaceships. I dont think it was possible to put more buttons in them.
