The Tech Question Thread

I'm going to keep this new Vaio for another 5yrs, and just pick up an external dvd drive, new mouse, and a pair of speakers. May also revisit that battery issue.

So the one I purchased from newegg doesn't even work! Plug and play my ass! I get a limone and newegg wants me to pay a $6 restocking fee. More something for nothing. Somebody give a bone, so I could make a soup out of it!

I'm constantly 5 years behind technology and I still feel like everything around me is a witch.

my 15 year old headphones are falling apart (yes, 15 year old)

www.newegg.com ... $20-$30 full size pair ... recommend me one.

movie and music listening off of the PC when the baby is sleeping is the sole use for them :loco:

this is what I have ...

No way! I have the same ones! The kids broke them though. :erk: Well, they didn't damage the drivers or anything, they broke a tiny piece of plastic that retains the cup against the ear so they are utterly useless
15 years is awesome! I commend you.
I think I mentioned my Sennheisers somewhere around here. They're in-the-ear style though. $60. Incredible sound. I am irked daily by the fact I don't know anyone personally who gives a shit that such tiny phones could sound so great. I tried to impress a coworker who is kinda into music and all she had to say was, "you spent SIXTY DOLLARS on headphones?!"

Anyway, dude...Sennheiser. Do it. Get one of the $1000 pairs.

I have 2 pairs of 90$ headphones and the different between the Bose and the logitech brand I think the other one is, is ridiculous. Never not-buying Bose again.

I have a pair of Sennheisser HD600 w/ 10' Cardas Cable that I never use. I use my Grado SR80 more actually if I use phones since they are easier to drive from my laptop and sound great. ...that was when my laptop speakers actually worked.

Bose (a.k.a Buy Other Sound Equipment) are overpriced. It's a shame you had a bad experience but you should reconsider... one day ;)

yeah bose is crap for lots of dough

what you were doing was buy headphones from a company that makes cheap mice and keyboards, and now you're surprised that a hi-fi company makes stuff that's better, even though it's probably the most ridiculed and reviled of all hi-fi companies

i mean, sorry to be harsh and all, obviously you should be happy with what you like, but there are a million better and more cost-effective choices

yamaha rh5ma are some fucking good headphones imo, you can probably find them for $50 on ebay or amazon or wherever

they're pretty flat though with somewhat unflattering (but honest) mids so for casual laid-back hi-fi listening you might actually want something a little more coloured

im totally all ears, this is my 3rd pair of 90s headphones. The first pair was by a brand Shure, and Bose is still better imo...what are my other options?

i'm not an expert, but you can ask around on www.head-fi.org (warning: this is very heavy on audiophile geekery, but there are some knowledgeable folks around)

check out stuff by grado, sennheiser, akg, ultrasone, yamaha... find a real hi-fi store that will let you try out different cans in store with your own music, compare to your old phones, see what suits you. there are lots of good headphones, in the end it boils down to personal taste.

not really any of those shops her ebut definitely would trust sennheiser if I saw them at a shop, maybe one day in the states i'll have a nice little store to blow hundreds of dollars on :)

What was the Shure model?

RMS, save your money and buy a pair of Grado SR80's ... for the money, they are THE best pair of headphones available imho...plus Grados are good headphones for Rock -oriented music. AND they are very easy to drive....but do sound even better with better amplification. Obviously they'll sound better fed from, say a receiver, than an iPod.
