The thread about guns and stuff like that!

Cigarettes are taxed extremely highly and they make a large amount of income though. Not everything that makes a lot of money is unregulated in an economic sense.

i'm not saying we shouldn't regulate these types of things, but to outright ban a certain product wont happen. its like banning menthol cools and not other types of cigerettes. why one and not the other. same with handguns over other guns.

you can attempt all you want, it wont happen. money rules the world, in case you haven't noticed, and the gun mans have a shitload of it. its absurd to think gun mans aren't buying votes to thwart your little attempts.

If money ruled the world, then why aren't we all living under brutal dictatorships without any freedoms whatsoever? That's a pointless way of arguing politics, and is also really sad. If everyone had this attitude about things, we'd be handing over our freedoms left and right. The point is that you actually have to maintain a public belief in human rights and freedoms in order to actually have any rights and freedoms in the first place.

how would you make it harder to obtain, say knives? they're everywhere. theres no way to regulate flow of any kind.

even if you couldn't buy one, you could make one. all you need is a piece of metal and a sharpening stone.

edit:ninja'd by vg

I don't want knives or guns to be harder to obtain. I don't want them banned.

brutal dictatorship is a bit of an extreme. of course money rules the world. our economy is set up to keep the average worker in debt so they have to work all the time, so the government will be receiving all those tax dollars. honestly, do you know any one that isnt in debt. whether its car payments, credit cards, school loans, ect.

If that's supposed to be an argument against capitalism, good luck finding another economic system that works better.

It's really a little silly to think that the people at the top are running things just so they can beat everyone else into the dirt. Sure, they want to be rich and to live a life of luxury, but most of them are probably doing it for their own pleasure, not out of some mad quest for domination over humanity. (Note: I say most, not all. Obviously there are a few power-fiends out there.)

That said, I think it's entirely possible for the average person to live comfortably in today's societies. But I think other factors are getting in the way of that (i.e. overpopulation).

its not really an argument against it. its just the way it is.
i wouldnt say "beating" us into the dirt, but in deep enough so the average joe is continually trying to get out. and they keep us there so they can maintain their high standard of living.

and yes it is possible live comfortably, thats the reason why this system works. people are comfortable enough not to care whats going on.

Which is why it's important to keep people educated. Otherwise, they take whatever comfort they have for granted, and end up handing over their freedoms to the people in charge.

We're certainly better off now than we were centuries ago (or even one century ago). And a lot of that has to do with education. I'd say it's probably the single best way of balancing out the gaps between social/economic status.

most people would rather be blissfully ignorant though. why try to change thing when you could just go to the bar for a few drinks and forget about everything.

and when people do try to change things most people wouldn't give up any of their precious time to help.

I'm sure not many people kill with swords these days, which is pretty unfortunate because swords are way more badass than knives and guns and killing people with them is ultra-badass.
 Sigged.

Grats on level 70 and I agree.

Amen to that.

Unfortunately true. The status quo has inertia and momentum that are hard to overcome (speaking figuratively of course).

...which is pretty much the state of the world.

I won't even let a handyman work in the house unless someone is here to watch. It's far too easy for someone to slip into my wifes jewelry box or take a handful of CDs or DVDs. I've had quite a few things stolen from me because I trusted people. Now I guard myself better.

This isn't to say that I'm going to conceal a pistol and stand on top of them the whole time. Someone being in the house is a deterrant.

I oppose hunting, but not very strongly - I think that unnecessary killing of animals is wrong (sport hunting), and a lot of people die in hunting accidents.

I don't think there's such a thing as hunting accidents. Seriously, if I was hunting in the forest and meet granny from the other cottage, I'd just fucking HUNT her down.

Less adrenaline tbh it's more of a personal affair I guess.

ORLY?!

These are exactly the fellows that die during cleaning the weapon.

.

I was thinking about getting myself a sword so I can walk around the streets and if people pull out a gun at my head I will cut their arm off.
