Finally finished the painting I've been working on for months... am very relieved. Don't ask me why I'm posting it here since this is really personal, but it's also meant to put my feelings on a pedestal for people to look at and scrutinize and do whatever they want to with. I'm just so happy i'm done painting it.. I wanted to submit it to a local gallery that is having an upcoming show entitled Love, and looking for paintings pertaining to such, but was cruelly disappointed to find out they don't accept anything over 48" in any direction...

Nice, very nice. Allthough I'm that sure about the perspective concerning the lower leg feet part -- they look a bit too big. Other than that, very impressive

I can't help but laugh at that painting. Don't get me wrong, it's well done, but her facial expression resembles that of a woman who is incubating a havana omellete without a safe haven in sight.

RE: the painting.

I see an abuse victim, a clear image of trauma and suffering in her face, as well as shock. It hasn't settled in her mind. The decor indicates a contrast, however, the settings are opulant even if the colors are more sickly in hugh. What should be seen as lovely decor is instead more prison-like, cold, and unpleasant.

The use of texture gives it a very visceral element, yet it retains a very, very lifelike quality, so it doesn't seem an abstraction of subject so much as an attempt to capture that tone of violence and loneliness. I'm not sure if it's the photo or the painting, but there seems just a touch of bluriness, which adds to the effect of the subjects disorientation.

The exaggerated perspective is intentional, to emphasize how "withdrawn" she is. Don't you know anything about art??!?!?

To add to the technical discussion, how is the back leg of the seat casting a shadow forward into the room? Is the wall actually a video screen, producing light from within?

Beyond that, nice work.

There is actually a door next to the chair,in which light was pouring from, as well as a window to the right, so you have the shadow being cast towards the left.....It's not really going forward so much as to the left. But good observation... I can see why that would seem off.

The feet are still a bit big. The photograph distorted them and I tried to draw them smaller but I didn't draw them small enough, apparently. However, in real life, in front of the painting, it isn't as noticeable. Remember the painting is actually a little over 6 feet tall, and you're looking at an approximately 4 inch rendition of it...
