Top 10 2009 Thread

So I like the new Divinity. It reminds me of later SYL, Meshuggah, and Disillusion.

I'm gonna go ahead and give these two albums a place in my upcoming list:
Klabautamann - Merkur
Fen - The Malediction Fields

I think the latter is much better than Microcosmos and deserving of a spot on many lists it's been left out of.

gah. I can't make a decision yet. I know for sure though Arckanum, Borgne, Teitanblood, Blut Aus Nord, Cobalt, Dreams of the Drowned and a couple others will be on the list for sure

I'm getting the feeling that Arizmenda might make its way onto my list if I keep listening to it like I have been.

I'm really quite dissapointed in the new Master's Hammy, I'm surprised Matt has put it so high on his list. It's a watery homosuite without any above average ideas, without any seriousness, just elderly humour imput.

Official verdict: anybody who says that 2009 wasn't a good year for metal has shit taste and/or is retarded. Griftegard is rocking my balls, back and forth, like an infant cradled in the loving embrace of his mother. If you don't like this, fuck you and don't talk to me.

Obviously the 00s will be regarded as ultimately less significant from a historical perspective for the genre than the 90s, 80s, and 70s, but, as testament to my magazine, and as testament to the statement I made the last time you tried to mock me, I still believe there are a lot of good bands out there putting out good and meaningful music.

Also, you should stop trying to mock me, you sound like a hipster.

A lot of good-to-great stuff this year but no real mind-blowers for me like Watching From a Distance, Graves of the Archangels, or Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice were. Still a good year though I guess.

I'll wait a while to post my list because there's a few recent albums I haven't heard yet, but some of my favourite moments this year have been off splits and other non album releases. The Sacriphyx side of the Stargazer split was utterly amazing, as were the Fall Of The Idols tracks from the Spiritus Mortis split. Stalker in particular is nothing short of phenomenal. Vestal Claret's Lost Loved Ones tape was awesome but my favourite is definitely Atlantean Kodex's The Annihilation Of Koenigshoffen live LP. Simply majestic and awe-inspiring music, I can't wait to see these guys live at Hammer of Doom 3.

I've had the album for a while now but never listened to it until last night. Guitar tone is fucking sweet. Just snagged a copy of HHR's last copy of their EP.
