That's odd, I'm not sure it would crack my top 5 black metal albums of the year, and this year has been stronger for death metal than it has been for black metal.

I would, since it is the best black metal album of the year.

Ha. Ha ha ha. haaaaaaaaaa ha,

Nah. It took me a long time to even work up enough patience to sit through the whole album. It's not too engaging, and almost put me to sleep on the first listen (not in a good way). I'd put Privelegivm, PPPPPPPPPP, Ast, Gin, The Malediction Fields, Ashes of Angels, Loss, Dimensional Bleedthrough, Grey Rigorism, and Microcosmos higher on a list than Fourth Reich, and I'm not too amazed with the last three.

Also, you never answered my question. Not to immitate Dakryn or anything.

This album renders all other black metal from this year essentially irrelevant:

True, it has been a much better year for death metal. And obviously I'm only speaking for my tastes, but I can pretty confidently say that Katharsis' latest isn't out of place at the top of anyone's list of black metal records this year. I would be interested in knowing what releases you'd place above it, though. My guess would be, for one, the new Beherit -- which is good, but for me no match for Fourth Reich. It seems like I'm more interested in dissonance and such in my metal than you are, though.

Okay, you people need to stop posting over and over before I can respond. At least I was right about you and the Beherit thing, but nah, I disagree. I prefer Fourth Reich.

:bah:

Seriously though, I like ÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞ and Microcosmos a hell of a lot, but I still say Fourth Reich is better -- and "not too engaging"? What, were you doped up on sedatives or something? Do you have a pulse? What the fuck?

Yeah dude, I have a pulse, but it doesn't beat to the rhythm of uninspired mid-tempo offbeat/blast bleat combinations, and the Darkthrone formula hardly even works for Darkthrone.

Looking back at the black metal albums I've purchased this year, it seems to have been a pretty weak year after Beherit, so Katharsis might crack the top 5 just by default. My top 5 right now would probably look like this:

1. Beherit - Engram
2. Master's Hammer - Mantras
3. Teitanblood - Seven Chalices
4. Weapon - Drakonian Paradigm
5. Katharsis - Fourth Reich

Most of those albums wouldn't even make my top 10 though.

There's no point to this conversation, to be honest. "Uninspired" or "not too engaging" are the last things to describe that album. But whatever.

Katharsis is a serious grower. I still don't really get tracks 2 and 3 and I've listened to it 9 or 10 times.
