USA vs Europe

If children were born and raised in a society in which nudity was treated normally, the way that it should be, as a natural thing and not merely a sexual thing, then there would be no reason to prevent children from being exposed to nudity. Obviously pornography is something completely different.

seriously, i think alot of our problems stem from how we have sheltered kids from life.

when i have kids, i will!

although if i have kids, we may move to europe. fuck the US morality police (aka christians)

As far as I know the US Government does not prevent any bands from playing, unlike Poland or Germany for example. Also hate speech laws are much more lax here, as Mort pointed out. I still think that any hate speech laws are unconstitutional, but that's another issue.

I agree with the nudity thing, it's rather silly to censor what everyone has.

Not that it's been too egregious in this thread, but I dislike when people pan the US for its lack of culture--as if it were some deficiency of the citizens--when the European countries have had a few thousand years head start on the US. This country is only ~230 years old (a little older if you count the colonies), and most of the country is a lot younger than that.

Things that I like about the US:
-Ease of access to a sampling of foreign cultures i.e. Greektown, Chinatown, and the various ethnic communities found in large cities. All ethnic food is available in moderately authentic forms.
-With the overwhelming amount of media produced here, some of it is bound to be pretty good. Lots of good films, TV shows, video games. On the other hand, lots of crap.
-American sports. Having four major seasonal sports is preferable to having soccer and then something like rugby or cricket.
-Many good craft beers, bourbons.
-Being such a large country, there's lots of environmental beauty.

Things I would probably like about Europe:
-History, art, architecture, culture beyond what is found in the ethnic enclaves in America.
-Scotch and Irish whisky, Belgian beer, German beer.
-Metal festivals.
-Food.
-Environmental beauty.
-From what I hear, much better public transportation.

I don't know if I'll ever get to go to Europe. I can't afford to right now, and I'm not sure when I will.

every american should leave the country and travel the world. i'm tired of people saying that america is great without going to other countries. its a major flaw in our society.

not only that, but when youre in your late teens/early 20s, you need to go out on your own and explore. ive seen alot of people in the military who have never traveled before, and then they end up in the desert, europe, eastern asia and they dont know how to cope. if they were given the chance to get out and explore for a week, they will be better able to cope with life in the future.

traveling the world is simply the most important thing you can do.

EDIT: PS, american public trans SUCKS compaired to europe.

gr, you are always making retarded claims about "flaws in our society". Ignorance is not a flaw of our society, it is a flaw of every society. Most people in Europe probably have not traveled to America and not everyone has the means to just travel where they want. I'm tired of you always bashing stupid Americans as if we have some sole monopoly on idiocy.

Also American public transportation, no matter which city I've been in has been equal, if not better than other countries. The Toronto transit system is overpriced and sucks, and Paris was not that great either.

I find the Montreal subway to be superior to any system I've been on, especially in that they have rubber tires to reduce the noise. And the stations don't smell.

well, alot of them HAVE travelled to america. but its easier to travel around europe. i dont think i need to tell you that england is different from romania. they can travel around europe and experience a variety of cultures without coming to america. american culture sucks anyways. if i were a european, i wouldnt want to visit america either.

its also obvious that europeans realize international travel is important. hence their huuuuuge rail system and cheap airlines like ryan air.

americans may not have the monopoly on ignorance, but they hold most of the shares

I change my mind. You are a moron.

You further enforce my opinion. I never thought a person could be so pretentious.

Good public transportation is not a universal European asset. It varies quite wildly from country to country. Hell it even varies within countries. Here in England where I'm staying right now, the London Underground is probably one of the most amazing public transportation systems I've ever experienced and wish the big cities in my home country had something like it. The normal railway system on the other hand seems pretty terrible. Trains are old, delayed often and tickets cost an arm and a leg. Public transportation in the Netherlands is okay mostly. Though I still think with the amount of taxes we pay things like public transport should be free or at the very least cheaper than they are now. Though unlike England, The Netherlands atleast made public transport free for students.

1.) American culture "sucks"? Ok, buddy. That's not even worthy of a response.

2.) On international travel, of fucking course Europeans rely more on international travel than Americans. Europe is a whole bunch of small countries grouped close together, America is huge and borders only two other countries. What's so hard about this?
