USA vs Europe

I was merely pointing out that there is more to US culture than fucking McDonalds and Nike you cad. Not to mention a lot of the comments that you just made there were kind of stupid. US culture doesn't "suck." That's just a retarded thing to say.

ok then, how bout this

european culture > american culture

and youre calling me a computer drafting program? :p

well, think of it this way

europe= 100 and america= 75.

instead off europe= 100 and america = 2

100>75

and its all opinion anyways, like ive said before. the art and history of europe appeals to me more than the commercialism of america. and i suppose thats what this thread is about.

I'm sure the art and history of Europe appeal to almost everybody more than the commercialism of America. But what about the commercialism of Europe versus the art and history of America? Kind of retarded to set the argument up that way bro, no offensez0rz.

the only reason i set it up like that because, as crimson velvet pointed out, commercialism is much larger in the states than europe. and in europe art and history is everywhere. its a larger part of the continent than commercialism at this point.

so i'm taking the largest factors from each side and saying which i prefer. i also think that europe owns america in art and history. and i place those 2 things higher than anything else, especially art. ya know, with music being such a big part of my life.

How does applying arbitrary numerical values to each culture help your claim?

And OBVIOUSLY Europe has more history than America. Last I checked, Europe has been around just a few thousand years more than America.

yeah, america doesnt have an even start on that. oh well. sucks to be america i guess.

art is my primary focus anyways

What you did is still retarded, regardless of whether or not you prefer European culture.

Comparing commercialism to art and history is fucking retarded, do you not see this?

If you honestly think that art and history is a more pervasive element of English culture, then you're stupid. Many of the larger European nations are not far behind. You're comparing the elements that most jump out at you, not necessarily 'the biggest.' Regardless of this, however, it is still very, very, very stupid to compare America and Europe as a whole in terms of America's consumerism (something nearly universally either apathetically ignored or despised) and Europe's art and history (something highly regarded). If you compare Europe's consumerism to America's art and history, which is better?

genocide roach, do you not realize how bad your arguments are? You are comparing two different aspects of relatively similar cultures and saying that one is better. Both America and Europe have commercialism and both American and Europe have art. Obviously Europe will have more art because they've been at it for thousands of years and people we call Americans today have only been going for 231 years.

Why not instead of making stultifying stupid claims like "america's culture sucks", think for a moment. Realize that our culture, like every culture on the planet, has its upsides and downsides, and that no matter which you prefer, you can't really say one "sucks more" or not.

my overall point is that americans need to see the world no matter what the costs. its cheaper than you think. i flew from san fransisco to oslo for around 700. then use your contacts from the metal community and stay at their place.

see the world, its worth it
~gR~

first off, amtrak SUCKS. trains are always ATLEAST 2 hours late. ive used amtrak dozens of times and i always have the same problem. and its not even cheap anymore. amtrak needs to be privatized.

TIACN: you missed the point completely. the point is that its way more affordable. a flight from liverpool to salzburg is way cheaper than a flight from NYC to toronto. shit, its cheaper than a flight from NYC to LA! i dont know how you thought i was talking about reliance on international travel. i was talking about ease of use and cost.

and yes, american culture sucks. yay mcdonalds! yay nike! :puke:
~gR~

every american should leave the country and travel the world. i'm tired of people saying that america is great without going to other countries. its a major flaw in our society.

not only that, but when youre in your late teens/early 20s, you need to go out on your own and explore. ive seen alot of people in the military who have never traveled before, and then they end up in the desert, europe, eastern asia and they dont know how to cope. if they were given the chance to get out and explore for a week, they will be better able to cope with life in the future.

traveling the world is simply the most important thing you can do.

EDIT: PS, american public trans SUCKS compaired to europe.
~gR~

well, alot of them HAVE travelled to america. but its easier to travel around europe. i dont think i need to tell you that england is different from romania. they can travel around europe and experience a variety of cultures without coming to america. american culture sucks anyways. if i were a european, i wouldnt want to visit america either.

its also obvious that europeans realize international travel is important. hence their huuuuuge rail system and cheap airlines like ryan air.

americans may not have the monopoly on ignorance, but they hold most of the shares
~gR~

its not nearly that much

i spent around 1000 on my entire 10 day trip to norway. that included air, food, train travel, and spending cash. shit, i'm not even spending 4000 on my 2 week adventure around europe staying at high end hotels! i'll do the math on that and show you guys just how cheap it is. 4000 isnt even close.
~gR~

literature- sure there are some good american writers, but europe has those too. push
architecture- sorry, but skyscrapers just dont compare to the cathedrals and castles of europe. europe wins
philosophical- both have their greats, but europe has the US beat, just because the originals set the stage for the rest of us. socrates is a hard act to follow. europe wins
economic- ok, capitalism is cool and we dominate the world market. US wins
political theory- the european parlimentary system is heavily favored over US system. europe wins
inventions- the US has made alot of important inventions. but we cant even compete with the rest of the world now. but the US wins for creating things like the phone.
painting- europe wins hands down. i dont think i even have to explain that one
music- blues and jazz are great american past times. but this whole rap/hip hop thing is rubbish compared to what europe started. the various era's of classical music, METAL, etc... europe wins

those are just my opinions ofcourse
~gR~

thats right. when you dont have a response, just post a stupid smiley

i'm comparing the biggest aspect of each region. do you not see this?
~gR~

I change my mind. You are a moron.

See? I told you all that he's retarded
