USA vs Europe

I've never been outside the US, but I live in the international residence hall on my campus, and haven't noticed much of a cultural difference between the American and European students. Americans eat more and have a less healthy diet, but a lot of the European students smoke almost constantly. Fortunately, New York state law requires all smokers to remain at least 20 feet away from the nearest building.

As far as music, I don't pick which bands to listen to based on where they're from, but the majority of the bands I like are Scandinavian in origin.

EDIT: Europe probably has fewer religious fundies though.

There's a difference between having a different opinion and saying really stupid, moronic things.

saying somthing is stupid is also an opinion

you all know i'm right. fuck america and its MTV consumer culture. waiting overnight to buy an overpriced cellphone because its made by mac is proof american culture sucks. having nice things is one thing, but being a complete fanatic about a 600$ phone is pretty lame

Why America sucks, from personal experience:
- Fat people
- Rude people

Theoretical reasons:
- Utilitarian individualism
- Consumerism
- Ethnocentrism
- Corporatocracy
- Foreign intervention
- Cultural exports

I imagine Canada and Europe aren't a whole lot better; Canada is basically the same as America except we're at least slightly less shitty in most areas.

I've heard / read from Europeans who have been to America and Americans who have spent time in Europe that, on the whole, Americans are much friendlier than Europeans. Having never been to Europe, I'm only going by what I've heard and read. It seems like a very common opinion, though, so there must be some truth to it.

That's not really accurate. Europe has a very difficult orography, there's damn mountains everywhere and building tracks is much more costly due to the immense amount of engineering there has to be. Tons of bridges and tunnels everywhere that inflate the building costs enormously.

By the other hand, America is generally flat, so the only thing that could burst the costs i the sheer amount of track you have to lie down, and of course, all the gas or electricity for the choo choo trains.
Valid point but the flatness is really only in the midwest/west.

Of all the cities I have been to, this includes NY, Boston, Philly and DC, Parisians were the worst by far. Elsewhere in France and everywhere else in Europe people were very nice. I don't think though that generalizing the niceness of a people is possible as nice people and assholeish people will be everywhere.
