Video game music

Have you tried the successors? Much better even. Especially more diverse music.

However, "The best is yet to come" is still unmatched (song in the MGS1 ending credits)

I go to a music school in bethlehem, PA, and there's this crazy musician there who can play the underwater theme from mario 64 on piano. he says he figured it out just by listening to it. its really kick ass.

FF7 did have some great music on it, but FF8 had even better music and it was also a very good game. I agree with older In Flames sounding like video game music and sometimes it made me laugh a bit, but at the same time it was so good!

the band epiclore (http://epiclore.cjb.net) has done a killer medley of DOOM music, you really should check it out here

the LucasArts adventures in the early nineties are some of the best games ever (i'm a big point'n'click adventure fan) and they had some cool music...

on a more personal note, i think the first time i thought of liking music was when playing a game... i believe it was titus the fox, or some other old game... i mention this because i didn't listen to _any_ music until i was about 15

sorry i have to concur. FF8 had better music. and a more interesting story.

I was gonna let the better music comment slide but then you had to go and say that 8 had a better story. :p I would have to say that by far 8 is the worst FF of them all. The characters were terrible. Squall was just a poor Cloud ripoff and there was no villain even close to being as kickass as Sephiroth. The junction system sucked and forced you to save and not use most of your magic. Plus the GFs took forever and you HAD to used them or you would get your ass kicked. One time I remember using a GF and getting up to take a piss and when I came back the animation was still going.

FF8 < New In Flames

Oh, and the music was pretty good, just not the overall game. Especially the opening track during the first FMV. I think it's called Liberi Fatali or something like that.

actually there were battles where using it would be a great mistake. and the fact that you could steal magic from enemies made me use it MORE since i wasn't worried about running out of MP.

as far as the story, i think FF8 was more intriguing and less straightforward than 7. yes, sephiroth is badass, (insert sephiroth comments x1000) but the relationship between squall and rinoa seemed a lot more genuine than cloud and aeris (heh, she dies and they hardly mention her for several missions).

and finally the ending: i thought the FF7 ending was ass. sorry. it just seemed really... poorly thought out. the ending FF8 cutscene was brilliant. and it left to question whether or not squall even lived. watch it again, he's not shown though every other character is. also, the secondary characters interacted more in 8 than in 7. i could go on a looong list of why i like 8 better, but generally it boils down to this: 7 had sephiroth. 8 had everything else. if those were combined, THAT would be the best FF.

Well, I respectfully disagree about the story lines but I have to tell you that Squall does live. For every FF game always watch past the credits until it says "The End". There are always at least 1-2 more minutes of story after the credits.

oh man, my favorite video game music of all time is probably the music from "Megaman 2". This is my favorite Megaman out of all the series, a true classic. The music kicks ass too! My personal favorite tune on the game is "Metal Man's" stage(hah, no pun intended) Anyone know what i'm talking about?
