Vortex vs Vintersorg

Vintersorg is such an amazing vocalist it hurts, as time goes on he just fuckin gets better. Vortex is also a great vocalist but somtimes he's a little too much for me. I love them both. ALL OF THE BORKNAGAR ALBUMS KICK ASS!

I MUST SAY THOUGH THAT I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED ABOUT EXACTLY HOW I FEEL ABOUT "THE FOCUSING BLUR" I THINK THAT "VISIONS" IS A LITTLE MORE CATCHING.
NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES MR.V IS GOD!!!

Vortex. Not just because he's an amazing singer, which isn't to say that Vintersorg isn't, because he's great too, but because all the songs that he writes, even co-writes for Borknagar are just devastating. Colossus, Witching Hour, and Ad Noctum may very well be my favorite Borknagar songs. He's simply a great musician. If only he didn't change his image so much for Dimmu.

Sorry I have to go with Vortex. I love Vintersorgs own music meaning when as the band Vintersorg but Vortex did the best job and will always be missed.

I like Vortex a little bit more. I'm really dissapointed that Dimmu Borgir doesn't use him for his talents other than bass. So occasionally you hear him sing but not enough for me. They could even trade off harsh vocals and I would be happier. Multiple singers is ussually more interesting, and Dimmu don't use it to it's potential.

I agree very much with you... it would make them THAT much better if Simen just had more vocal time... but hey, maybe thats his choice. He wanted something different than Borknagar when he left.

I think that Garm, Vintersorg and Vortex each brought something unique to each album. I wasn't a big fan of Quintessence except for the track Colossus. I think, by far my favorite album is probably Archaic Course. It sounds so paganistic and I think that Vortex's vocals are angelic-I don't know if that is the right word. I thought that Garm lent the band some historic feel in the earlier two albums and Vintersorg brought some kind of fresh edge. I always think of some demonic sorcerer in the mountaintops when I hear Vintersorg's voice. But I would have to say it would be Vortex. I only bought the Dimmu albums because Vortex is on them. I think no matter what band he is in there will always be attention for that band. Dimmu is only the next Cradle of Filth because of Simen's talent!!!!!Come on, they're on Ozzfest this year. They are boring old hash without Simen.

Vortex has had his chance and left for Dimmu Borgir, not a bad choice but still his loss. Vintersorg's vocals are amazing, he's one of my idols. Vortex is a very versatile bassist, he's played in many bands such as Arcturus, Dimmu Borgir and of course Borknagar. But i say that he's been put to better use in dimmu borgir, he's using more aggressive vocals and has really made a name for Dimmu Borgir. Garm is also a good vocalist... sounds much like Vintersorg in my ears, mind you I'm going tone deaf..

But my money is on Vintersorg :worship:

Vortex does aggressive vocals in dimmu borgir? I thought he only did the clean vocals. Shagrath should go back to guitars and let vortex do everything. I haven't liked Shagrath's vocals at all since Enthrone Darkness Triumpant.

I truly think Vintersorg is incredible as "Vintersorg", and he is in fact one of my idols... an inspiration to my own musical efforts... but... for Borknagar, I'd have to go with Vortex... for the same reasons many have mentioned.

However... I think I tend to enjoy older Borknagar more than newer, so maybe that's why my preference is what it is. Don't get me wrong though... I really like the more "experimental" type stuff they're doing now, and love all the creativity, different ideas and different sounds... but they're old stuff was just so damn good, and had an atmosphere and vibe that... I dunno... I just don't hear on their newer stuff. Seriously though... it could just be me :)

Dimmu Borgir is going to be at Ozzfest this year?? Wow...

~Robert, who misses the Dimmu Borgir of yesteryear

well let me see i like simen. i choose vintersorg. i heard simen live and have been to shows of him with borknagr when they toured. he is awful live. some of the clean parts for the most parts all the songs he doesn't sing live but instead does the coarse vocals. i have a cd with all the songs borknagar did with vintersorg live and not only does he do them good but he sings clean where it was clean on the album. wow that's a concept stay true to the recording otherwise what's the point. two simen loops his vocals so many times in the studio by the time you see him live he can't reproduce what he did in the studio. hence i say what's the fucking point if you are going to record something you can't do live. vintersorg is more natural. he uses what he has but he doesn't sing something when i see borknagar that i will be cringing when he does give his vocal performances. i am sure most of you could give less shit about live but in my opinion that's a true test of a good singer. able to handle both. simen has a wider range but once again that's only in the studio. go record sometimes you will see just how much they can polish you up in the studio \m/
I agree with this. Listening to Gods of my World off the album and a live recording is almost like listening to the same thing. That's a pretty awesome effort. But choose something like Revolt, you can't really do the layers of the vocals unless you have two voiceboxes (do it yourself surgery anyone?). I actually liked the live recording of The Black Token (Mr.V) better than the recording, just seems to do a great job of live concerts. Not that Vortex did not do great stuff live, but I do think that it sounded different to the recordings and probably a bit weaker in competition with the other instruments.

But Vintersorg and Vortex are pretty much Apples and Oranges to me, I couldn't go a comparison. (Garm can be a Pineapple maybe, or a Mintie?)

Universal off of Archaic Course and The Chaos Path off of La Masquerade Infernale(Arcturus) two songs that make me crazy about Vortex! I don't like the makeup he wears with Dimmu though, It reminds me of the 'Goth' kids at my school :( (corpsepaint is ok to me though)
But choosing between Vortex and Vintersorg is like making a parent choose between thier children! :)

Well, of course Vintersorg.
I don't like that much Vortex's Grim Vocals, I love his clean vocals though.
Well, about Vintersorg, he also does an amazing job in the clean vocals, very firm and stable.

Vintersorg definitley - his grim vocals are excellent - much better than vortex's, and sometimes vortex's clean vocals sounded strange, while vintersorgs are much more steady and normal

Hail to the V :headbang: :worship: :worship:
