What bands are bands that you just dont "get"?

I've disagreed with a lot of posts here, but this one just blows me away. The Gallery is probably one of my 5 favorite albums, while Haven is probably the only DT album that I don't love. I didn't even know people like you existed....

Haven was the first album I heard from the band and I liked it. Nice catchy gothenburg death album with good production. No more or less. The Gallery was a big disappoinment because I was expecting much more. A few good songs in it but overall it sounds quite uninspired. The band doesn't sound very "tight" either.

Tool and Radiohead are big ones for me. I always feel sleepy when I listen to them!

Dream Theater is ok in my book. When I listen to them, I'm not trying to get anything "emotional" with their music. I listen to it for musicianship and that's it.

I really don't get the underground kvlt black metal that sounds like it was recorded on a Fisher Price recorder in their mother's basement. Gives me a headache!!

smoke some weed...i mean good, dutch weed and listen to Led Zep - In The Light, or Led Zep - No Quarter...or Led Zep - Friends, i can go on and on about Led Zep. You just need to feel it. Feel 'The Page' and 'The Plant' and you'll understand...
That's almost exactly why I don't like Led Zeppelin. I'm fine with spacey/odd/off the wall stuff, but when you need to get high to really "feel" something (rough translation: you need to be completely blasted to be anything other than bored) it just gets ridiculous.

Other bands:

Metallica: bought Ride the Lightning, put it on and thought the music wasn't too bad. Shame about James. Though there's always Call of Ktulu.

Pantera: actually I thought they kicked ass, but Phil really gets on my nerves. He really can sound like a 15 year old shouting at his step-dad. Never understood why so many people won't let anyone say a bad word about him.
Ozzy-era Sabbath: I like Sabbath. I like(d) Ozzy. But god damn do I hate them together!
Nirvana: can't stand 'em. I've never understood the hype and never really wanted to.
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Anthrax
Slayer
Black Label Society
SoaD
Phil Collins-era Genesis ... I just don't get it :erk:

There are loads more too... just can't be bothered.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree with your veiw on Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Tool. Anyway let's not argue about each other's taste. Now, I really can't stand bands like Nirvana, SoaD and Slayer - they don't sound good or appeal to me. There we share same opinion! But i'm wondering what kinda music do you like listen to, Khayman666?

P.S, had to mention; In my hometown, I'm the only person I know of; who does'nt like Iron Maiden! Children around 10 years old, girls and babes, and even parents and school teatchers are fans here... And I feel like a stranger!

Sigur Rós
i can easily see how people would not be into them. Personally I think they rule though.

Pain of Salvation - Songwriting sucks.
ok, perhaps the lyrics or structure are not your type of thing. that's understandable, easily. but to say they empirically suck at writing songs is just a blatant falsehood.

Um... you probably have barely even heard one song by Dream Theater so YOU are wrong unless you have proof of why you are not.

WILL PEOPLE STFU ABOUT DREAM THEATER ALREADY?!?

I have heard almost all their albums except for the most recent one (which I heard is utter rubbish, even people whole like Dream Theatre think so, so I'm sure I'm not missing much). And how can I have proof of how I am not wrong? How can you even be wrong when it's all subjective? Someone else said I was wrong because I don't agree with his opinion so I just turned it around.

In conclusion: Dream Theatre blows.

this thread is such an exercise in mental/musical infancy, i dont even know how to respond to most of this horse shit. but if the "ultimate metal band" threads are of any inkling into this, i really shouldnt be surprised should i.

Let's hear about how we are all inferior, none of us know anything about music, etc.

Tool is one....everyone goes insane for them and I think they're good, but not as great as they're made out to be.

Every death/black metal band in existence (except Opeth and In Flames)

Those would be my top ones.

am i the only one that thinks dimmu borgir is pretty good? i mean they are pretty famous now and everything, but i for one, really like Death Cult Armageddon...yeah its cheesy, but the music actually sounds good to my ears. the drumming is great and the piano an orchestra make it epic.

Meshuggah - just a bunch of noise
radiohead/coldplay type shit
fleetwood mac
katatonia
kottonmouth kings/icp music, maybe because I hate rap
ANY RAP/R&B/hiphop/dance/techno

If you dont think petrucci plays with emotion I guess youve never seen him live
hollow years(budokan)
through her eyes(live ny)
change of seaons (live ny)
goodnight kiss (budokan)

I "get" these bands...I just don't "get" their popularity

Tool...decent band, but waaaaaaay overrated
Children of Bodom
Dimmu Borgir...suck
Cannibal Corpse...death metal's answer to Dimmu Borgir
Megadeth
System of a Down
THE MARS VOLTA. Why so many metalheads like this band is well beyond me

oh and...Dream Theatre:

Boring, pretentious, lifeless, emotionless, cheesy. That about sums them up. Don't get why anyone would voluntarily listen to this. Sure they can play their instruments, but what's the point if you can't write a decent song?

How could I have overlooked this?

The Grateful Dead. Everyone in my HS was apeshit about them. Boring, weak out of tune vocals. Not for me.

Dark Tranquillity - Lots of people have been praising "The Gallery". Listened it through and didn't find it very impressive. Haven is a decent album though.

Punish My Heaven is the only really kick arse track on that album, and really it is stunning. If you can't get into them on that try Enter Suicidal Angels or Damage Done, DT are more or less the best Melodic/Gothenburgh Death outfit out there, if only for Mikeal Stanne and Niklas. Either way, as good as they are, they kick the arse of In Flames and Arch Enemy these days.
