What's your favorite sub-genre(s) of metal?

I chose death and black because they are the only two genres that I have really delved deep into. I almost said power metal, but these days, I only enjoy a few bands (Blind Guardian and Sonata Arctica are the only ones that come to mind immediately).

My favorite bands are Mourning Beloveth and Primordial. But my favorite genres are definitely death metal and black metal.

Black Metal, for sure. I mean...you can't beat bands like Emperor, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone, Dimmu or Bathory, to some extent.

I also like to give a honorable mention for viking metal in bathory or amon amarth.
Also, on another note, grindcore is nothing but noise.

not all metalcore is bad, in fact the majority of my favorite bands come from the 'core end of the spectrum. I love me some Botch and Coalesce.
