Which band got you into metal?

I was shopping in CVS with my bro and his girl and we stopped into the music section. My bro talked me into buying Creed's "My Own Prison" and Def Leppard's "Euphoria". I emulated my brother's tastes for a while but then I searched for music online and founf Fear Factory. I was already into "metal" but they got me REALLY into it.

My first death metal encounter was Tristania's "Beyond The Veil". I got used to growl vocals from them. In Flames also helped me get into it a lot (I bought The Jester Race with Tristania's cd). The rest, as they say, is history.

I remember listening to old metallica and GnR.then the years went by without any music in my life.
then I started listening to NIN and 2 years later a friend gave me a sepultura and a testament cd
it was demonic and chaos a.d.
first I heard demonic and my mind got blown away
then chaos a.d. finished the job

my rebirth was when I bought my alive in athens triple digipak cd.
I was only into black and death but when I heard Iced earth I started liking power/heavy as well

Aaaah.... That tripple album is a fantastic one....
But not the one getting me into Iced Earth...
A friend sent me a whole bunch of songs, lots of
Iced Earth as well... And I started listening to it
more and more (this was in my early days when
it came to metal). One song stuck to my mind all
the time.... It was "The Coming Curse".

I still can't believe what a GREAT track that is!!!?!
I used to listen to it maybe ten-twenty times a
day, it felt like the song was my life! Hehe...

I have some great memories to that song as
well, even though they're pretty pathetic, it's my
life >) Yum, thanks for reminding me! Hehe....

My first metal album was "the triumph of steel" by ManowaR, by that time i never listened nothing of metal but I was interested in mithology and RPG´s,and a pair of years later I was reborn...
I listened "Dragons of the north" by Einherjer it changed my musical orientation forever, what a great band!

Well, many of us are around our twenities aren´t we...;) I guess we have most ages, but then again I don´t know, guess Fjelltussa is the only one with the knowledge that is available (thinking about that birthday list)

-phyros (thinking age is irrelevant, always have, and always will)

Actually, I quit making that list when I found out what that calendar was.

And you know what? Morgana is definitely not the oldest one here at UM. There was a guy (or girl, dunno) who became 98 years old the first of april! :p It's true! It sais so in the calendar! :D

-But I still have the the list, though. With the birthdays of the ppl here. It _is_ a bit more surveiable.

@Phyros: Kattegat? Going to Denmark?

Got into metal with Metallicas Black album and Maidens Powerslave album. Listened to it at cousins place and later I got the black album myself. I was 12 at this time if Im right. After that I started to listen to some punk for a year or two but then I fell back where I belong, the metal genre. And since then Ive been through all different metal styles and still lovin it :)

Metallica's Black Album brought me into metal (and subsequently all the other Metallica albums). Crematory's "Awake" introduced me to more extreme metal (i.e. with growls instead of singing). And from there I went on...Nightwish's "Oceanborn" was my first sort of power metal album...Dark Tranquillity was my introduction to Göteborg melodic death...and Empyrium's "A Wintersunset..." was my first album with blackish influences...then came Vintersorg and Borknagar...etc.

In 7th grade I took my sisters Metallica tapes from when she briefly was a metalhead. By that time she was listening to rap so she didn't mind me taking them. They got me hooked. Then a friend of mine from IRC started sending me mp3s of bands like Deicide and managed to get me hooked on that too. He'd send me tapes full of great music - namely this Italian band called Crown of Autumn (whose CD I can't find ANYWHERE) - that got me into medieval and folkish metal. I got out of metal for several years and into punk, but once I got into vikingarock that paved the way for me to listen to metal again.. and I guess it was Vintersorg that got me back into it all. I guess having friends who listen to metal got me into it as well.

Fav songs then (pre-punk):
Dark Tranquility - Scrythe, Rage and Roses
Crown of Autumn - A Lyre in the Vespers Calm
Deicide - Bastard of Christ

I was cool when I was 13 haha

Does anyone have a place I can get samples of Borknagar's latest (w/ mr V) and Einherjer? Not looking to start an mp3 war here so I'm asking only for *samples*. Thank you much.

I once saw a Crown of Autumn CD on the shelf in a music store. The cover and the title seemed kind of interesting, and I wanted to listen to it (which wasn't possible at that particular store). Unfortunately, I have never ever come across a copy of this album again.
