Why does mainstream metal culture suck so much?

It makes me sad when people think they are tough and heavy when they listen to mainstream gothencore or Slipknot. I know that Suffocation would completely destroy them yet Suffocation gets nothing.

They aren't called hair bands neither. It's called Hair Metal. Or Glam Metal, and it is metal, just not a very tr00 style.

they're still the weakest form of metal, if you can even call them that.

Suffocation is heavier, better played, better vocals, better everything really.

However, the word "better" suggests an opinion rather than fact. Not that Suffocation doesn't excel in these fields, but ranking a band in terms of artistic skill takes much more than simple-minded opinions.

Suffocation can play their instruments better than Slipknot. I don't think anyone can deny that. Plus they are heavier, I also don't think anyone can deny that. Whether you choose to like it is your prerogative.

Suffocation's superiority over Slipknot on all facets is irreffutable, but the point I'm making is that it is human nature for one person to call a band "better" based simply on their musical tastes, where as instrumental skill is better determined by the experts and stalwarts.

Yes I agree, because of the prevalence of popular opinion favors them. To make matters even better is that their musicianship is superior.

Mainstream bands recieve high marks because of their popularity, not their musicianship. Suffocation is very skilled and very popular without being mainstream.

I don't wanna sound like a prick but that basically means that he is right. Metal-Archives is a pretty strict when talking about what is metal or not. Hell, they are the jerks that won't include a good amount of Industrial Metal bands including Rammstein (Still hate them for that).

Ah, but this very drive is what causes metal to be so violent and hard. If a band set out to make music to sound like everything else, they aren't very metal, now, are they? But if they went out and made their own shit, driven by their hate for fake shit and love for real music, they will make excellent music.
