Ah, but this very drive is what causes metal to be so violent and hard. If a band set out to make music to sound like everything else, they aren't very metal, now, are they? But if they went out and made their own shit, driven by their hate for fake shit and love for real music, they will make excellent music.

It still makes me sad at what metal is represented by these days.

To all those lamenting the current popular state of "metal" - take it from an old campaigner, it won't last, and most of the poseurs will drift off when dance music or the next non-guitar based music comes back into vogue again.

Then you'll have the oppurtunity to buy all the stuff that will be "cult" in 10 years time when the cycle arrives again.

Yes I agree, because of the prevalence of popular opinion favors them. To make matters even better is that their musicianship is superior.

Mainstream bands recieve high marks because of their popularity, not their musicianship. Suffocation is very skilled and very popular without being mainstream.

I know what you mean, I see metalcore/hardcore bands wearing Souls to Deny shirts, and then producing terrible music. If you listen to good metal, why don't you make it?

I agee with you and the guy you quoted. It is a lot of fad following, just like the hair 'metal' of the late 80's. Nu-metal/Metalcore of today is our hair metal, the mainstream crap fans of the real stuff have to deal with. I also understand what you mean about the popularity cycle. Although I cannot figure out whether the Metalcore fad is just starting, or it has been around for a while.

I did not talk to any of the chicks. I tend to feel like a weirdo with long hair walking around in malls because i'm usually the only guy with long hair.

I hate how society makes you feel when you are actually in public. That's when you start to think something is wrong with you even when there is not, your mind is overbearing.
