Windows Vista!

LOL does it really ask you if your sure you want to this & that all the time?
That commercial is retarded but still is it true?

Yeah but you can turn it off!

Recording with it now... So far, it's just a sexier XP with a load of handy addons...

See all these folk bitching about it? has anyone actually used it?

I used it for 5 minutes at a store. enough annoyances to make me not want to buy it.

so what if you can "turn it off." i don't wanna have to spend 5 days seeking out all the sexy features i wanna turn off to regain performance. besides most of the great vista things can be done within XP. and XP pro comes in 64bit, so saying thats an advantage over XP isn't true. though i'm sure most people don't think to upgrade to 64bit edition, especially now that most hardware supports it (when i upgraded to XP with my new comp it just came out and not much was compatible with it).

point is this, as hardware gets faster and faster and better and better and everyone has dual quad core processors running at 4ghz with 6GB of ram. i see the great uses of vista not worth it. it will make my computer feel like a downgrade if anything. sure i get kick ass search functions and "great" looking windows (personally i hate the aero look) and some other nifty features and slightly increased stability. not worth the time, effort, and money i currently need to put forth for an upgrade.

but hey, as I said please inform me of some of these add ons you've found very useful other than the search that will be helpful in a recording studio. I'm not trying to test you or anything, I'm seriously interested.

So far,

"show the desktop" when you have countless windows open.

Again, improved alt/tab thing borrowed from OSX,

Infact, my cpu meter is running a decent few % lower than usual on an average project though that could be 64 bit OS and 64bit sonar...

My point with this thread is so far, VISTA has given me ZERO problems...

Since i am doing a 30day evaluation, i will continue testing and pushing it and maybe iäm lucky that my soundcard has 64bit vista drivers and my OS is vista enabled and 64bit native but so far, i don't see what ANY of the fuss is about.

I also wasn't trying to be an ass. I just want to know more about Vista cuss I'm only online for a few minutes @ a time, 90% of that time is here. I've always used Both windows & mac for my music they both have advantages. altho If I where in the position of having to choose one over the other I would go with my G5 with 8 gigs of ram. I believe I could double it if I actually needed to. on the other hand my G4 works great too. As far as the 64bit thing macs been there for a while now. But in any case keep us informed on Vista, would be appreciated.

Meh the improved gui is just for wankin in my opinion. And thats great for the average user but for a DAW? Stupid.

Expecially when cubase and probably (although I don't know since I dont use it) nuendo can only handle a max of 2g of RAM.

Again windows vista is pretty much good for porn I guess, but even then it probably sucks cause you can get viruses.

All well, good luck using it!

I would like to get a Mac G5 but the price differences are SOOOOO much different with PC.

I can get right now a PC Core Duo 2.66mhz, 2gb RAM, 500 gb HD, XP pro, 7900gs vid card for about $1500.

But a Mac G5 with a 2.66mhz, 2gb RAM, 500gb HD, OSX, 7900gs vid card is about $4000!!!!!:zombie: :goggly: :zombie: OMG!! THIS NIGGA AIN'T THAT BALLIN' !!!!!

"Hmm, what do you guys think about tacking a bunch of stuff stolen from Mac and open-source (horribly implemented, as is the modus operandi, but sexy-looking in the commercials... kinda), cripple functions like rights management (because who needs digital audio out?), security (No hackers will exploit our faulty IPv6 implementation! They haven't the... well, the technology, yes, the time, yes, the money, more than likely... they haven't the... erm... something we'll think of! You're safe, we promise!), and put insane demands on processing power (Of COURSE putting boxes on a screen is deserving of 700 million calculations per second! That's not inefficient at all!) and then sell it for $400?"

"Bloody good job, mate! Way to almost include decent functionality! You've really shown those 'efficient' operating systems who's boss!"

I might try Windows Vista sometime in the future, but I'm a keep using XP since I've had no problems with it yet/or wanted to upgrade to Vista right away.

Also, for those who get virus while looking at porn? Where the hell do you guys get your porn from to get a virus. I've been looking up porn for the past 11 years with Windows OS's and haven't had one virus. Maybe you one should know where to get quality porn.

Just a heads up, Presonus hasn't made drivers for the firepod that work with vista yet. But you can use the generic asio drivers to get it to work, so you should still eb able to record.

What do you mean by this? Generic drivers that Vista comes with or generic drivers I can download from somewhere else?

Also, I have a legal real deal version of XP Pro right now...5 dollars student discount (thank to my drummer). I used this to install XP Pro on my home PC...Can I use this again for my laptop? You have to call or get online to activate the software, which is why I thought you couldn't use it again. Anyone know if I can use this twice?

Got the computer...Cleaning out the stuff I don't need at the moment. So far, I kinda like Vista. Learning my way around, it does feel more like a Mac desktop.

I guess yes.
When you registered for the first time the got some info on the Comp you're using it on. But afaik you can tell them, that you don't use the other PC anymore and can install it on the new one.
Dunno about parallel use though...

An OS that need 1Gb of ram for a stupid useless graphic interface (Linux have a graphic interface with 3d windows, transparent fx, ecc... without this stupid ammount of resource request) is a shit.
I continue with Xp
