Wow Mikael Åkerfeldt posts on here thats cool! (noob thread alert)

necrophagist front man Muhammed used to post on his old forum sometimes several posts a day. Pity they quarelled and shut it down

Novembers Doom IS a popular band, and they post all the time on their forum. Of all the forums I've been on, Novembers Doom truly relate and talk openly with their fans. I know, that along with me, many people appreciate their time.

But as we all saw yesterday, the only reason he posted was to defend his judgement and decision about Axe. It kinda sucks when you've been working your ass off making great music for 16 years and you come to your official forum to interact with some fans only to see them arguing and whining because one of your bandmates left and you had to replace them. I'm sure it was hard enough to figure out who he wanted to replace Lopez, he was a great drummer. Now he's got "fans" telling him he made the wrong decision before Axe even gets to show us what he's got?
end of rant

this is a forum though, and people display their opinions on forums regardless of wether their opinion is correct or who it offends. if everybody is just going to act like fanboys then this forum is gonna suck. i can understand why mike gets pissed off though and as you said to he has been slogging his guts out for opeth for the past 16 years and i guess he is not gonna choose a half ass drummer. Im sure all of the bad speculation about axe will be wiped out when he suprises us with some awesome drum work on the next album........hopefully. I think its fuckin great that mike posts on this forum though, its good to get an actual band member to answer your queries. :kickass:

I actually sent him some of my artwork and he said it was cool and that he might use it in one of his furture releases, that was nice

That is wicked cool. :)

One of the reasons I like the less popular bands is that they are easier access than the huge arena bands. You think Metallica would post on their message board? (I assume they have one).

In "Some Kind of Monster" (their documentary about making St. Anger) they actually do talk to some fans in a chat room. I can't remember if it was in the special features or if it was actually part of the documentary though.

i love the bandmembers who have forums on UM and actually frequent them, like those you guys mentioned. It's very cool when bands really connect to their listeners like that, I totally appreciate it and, as has been said, would do likewise were I in their position.

It seems to me that the less popular they are they more they are intimate with their fans

There are some musicians who are like messiahs to their fans, so even though they're not that popular, there's still an EXTREMELY HIGH DEMAND on them. Mikael Akerfeldt is one of those musicians. Steven Wilson is in this same vein, and so do Daniel Gildenlöw.

I don't understand this extreme idolatry, although I can appreciate and even get influenced and amazed by the lyrics and instrumental of some artists.

Anyway, I was answering your message because you said: "less popular they are, the more they are intimate with their fans". Actually it depends. I know that Jeff Scott Soto is very close to his fans, even now that he's with Journey. The same happens to Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert... and I've been told that Guns N' Roses guitarist Bumblefoot is a very nice guy who keeps in touch with his old and new fans.

Yea, they're a nice group of guys too. I have Paul on my AIM and talk to him from time to time. Hes not one of those guys that are "Uh huh. Yea. Thanks"
I enjoy talking to him

Not like that one time I talked with Paolo from Trivium for the hell of it. He was an ass.

Special features, yeah. I recall Hetfield being bored while on a plane or whatever in 2004, he got himself an acount at encycmet and discussed Merciful Fate (the medley) with some dude.
And back in the nineties at least they posted on their own board.

Also the dude In The Project Hate posts very frequently on their board.
And Nile do Kicketh Ass.

haha, I was at this festival a year and a half ago, and trivium was there (it was a very small festival, but they just became very well known), and they did this autograph-session. this session took place at the stand where they sold cd's, and it was about to start when I was looking for cd's .... now, they positioned themselves right next to me, and all of a sudden there was this huge crowd behind me! I didn't realize it until I looked behind me.
and then they thought I was first in line or something and were preparing for signing whatever shit I would give them to sign ... but hell, I don't care about trivium! so I looked at them, barely recognizing them actually, looked at them as if I didn't know who they were and as if they were being weird, and walked away ...
you should have saw their faces hehe, and the faces of the people behind me in line! :headbang:

oh well, just to say that extreme idolizing of people is stupid :p
