Anyone got any good 2013 music yet?

New Amorphis could be interesting (coming in a couple of weeks)... I hear Orphaned Land is doing something, too.

So far, I haven't really heard anything spectacular. The new Hypocrisy is kinda decent.

Subterranean Masquerade has released a new EP.

Fates Warning has been promising a new album every year for the past 4 years or so, but this time I think it'll happen, since they have the material and studio time to back it up.

Omnium Gatherum's new album Beyond is alright.

EDIT: Also looking forward to a new Amon Amarth album in 2013

Upcoming:
Ayreon - The Theory of Everything (Arjen's stuff is always a 7/10 at worst)
Seventh Wonder - ??? (this band has done only good so far in their career, Great Escape is my favourite song ever)
Haken - ??? (sounds very creative so far, and previous two albums were masterpieces)
Dream Theater - ??? (positive vibes surrounding the band after Porntoy left)
Devin Townsend Project - [whatever he's doing next] (favourite musician, can't go wrong)
Dark Moor - ??? (my guilty pleasure)

I can't imagine any of the first five failing. They'll be good at worst.

Released:
Gloryhammer - Tales from the Kingdom of Fife (this is brilliant)
Avantasia - The Mystery of Time (didn't expect too much, got less)
Spock's Beard - Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep (listened only once so far, didn't grab me. But before I've only listened to Neal-era Spock's so it was a gamble to begin with)

This is all I know.

Spock's Beard? I'll have to give that a listen. Orphaned Land for sure. Amorphis has been hit and miss. Devin could be interesting, also hit and miss.

So far the year has been fairly uneventful for me. The new Arsis single is good, haven't checked out the rest of the album. I also like Violator's new single Endless Tyrranies, though the album seems to be in development hell or something. Some of the new DGM stuff is alright. Looking forward to new Megadeth, but skeptically after 13. Hopefully Vektor finishes their new album this year, and of course SX?

SX? Is this African American gentleman serious?

I see what you did there...

Steven Wilson has a new album out, which is, you know, cool, if you like Steven Wilson.

But unfortunately I haven't really been able to listen to much from this year yet. I'm sure there are good things out there, I heard that the new David Bowie is supposed to be good.

Forgot about Seventh Wonder. I'm curious to see where they go for this next album. The Great Escape had 2 great tracks imo, but the rest i thought was subpar compared to WITW and MF

Upcoming:

Seventh Wonder
Leprous
Haken
Darkwater
Anubis Gate
Paul Wardingham
Subsignal
Chaos Divine (??)
Karnivool (??)

Released:

Hmm, the new Omnium Gatherum was pretty good imo, but that's about it. New Disperse was decent, but nothing like their debut. I was curious to hear the new Killswitch Album with Jesse Leach back in the band; even though it's better than everything they ever released with Howard Jones, the magic that could be found in 'Alive or Just Breathing' isn't there anymore. It's a slow start for 2013, but I expect it to be a great year for me in music.

Oh, and I definitely need to check out the new Riverside.

Riverside review:

Disc 1: generic prog. zzzz
Disc 2: Hello again, Riverside. Please make more of this.

Leprous are gods. I'm looking forward to that one.

Haken is terrible, by the way.

I cannot see how they're terrible. It's fun, creative, complex, surprising, varied, well produced and not rarely catchy music. Each band member is skilled at his instrument, although I can see people not liking the singer. The songs are in my opinion very well composed - especially Nocturnal Conspiracy, Deathless and Visions from the latest album are pure class. PURE CLASS.

What do you dislike in Haken?

What I really liked about Disc 1 is how they moved from some particular sound (Harmonically speaking) to a new one. Of course, that new sound is based on pentatonics, a few "bluesy" licks and "jazzy" keyboards and those may be generic, but for me that was quite a surprise.

And before my first listening of the full album, I was really expectant about Disc 2. It didn´t disappointed at all :D.

This appeared like 10 hours ago on their facebook fan page:

Tomorrow we will launch the first song from our upcoming album "Coal"!!

It´ll surely appear on this thread in a few hours...

I second these statement about Haken.

Really it's just me and my preferences, which Haken do not conform to at all. Listening to them only serves to piss me off. It's almost like they are trying to make the opposite of the kind of prog music that I like, if you will. The second album is actually somewhat more bearable than the first one, but still not an enjoyable listen for me. I did give both of their albums a couple of listens, but it's not my thing. So much hype for them, and I don't get it.

To my ears it's just... Annoying. They are the kind of band that will follow every good idea with five bad ones.

The lyrics also annoy me.
