Bands you use to hate, but now like!

The one that immediately comes to mind would be Helheim. I bought Jormundgand when I was not very experienced with Black Metal and the insanely shrill, high pitched squeals made it impossible for me to enjoy, to the point where I labeled it one of the three worst albums I've ever heard in my life. But then Erik called me a faggot for not liking it, and the rest is history.

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elliott has always been good. You do like him now, right? His records are heartbreakingly good.

I've liked him lots for years now but (I can't remember which it was) the first song I heard kinda sucked so I never bothered paying attention to him for ages. According to Last.FM he's my 20th favourite artist.

Make that 19th. Comeback Kid got to number 1 through a tragic accident. :P

The only one that really comes to mind is Job For A Cowboy, I used to think they were mindless wankery. I gave them a few listens a couple months ago, and now I really like them. Seeing them live has really heightened my opinions of them.

Personally, I fail to see why everyone dislikes the band.
___________

Edit: I used to hate Rammstein alot too... having only heard the two "radio hits", Du Hast and Amerika, I thought that they were pretty damn stupid. I checked out their discography, and I was like "Goddamn, most of this is actually fucking awesome."

Note that this was before Rosenrot was released, though. Personally, I think that that album is complete shit, aside from 3-4 songs.

Immortal bored the living hell out of me at first, although the biggest would probably be The Sisters of Mercy. I respected them for what they did for the goth scene, but it was a long time before I could get into them.

Post-RIP Megadeth. Especially Risk, but it ended up that the ones that were the hardest to get into were the ones I liked most from that era. Risk and Youthanasia specifically.

Avenged Sevenfold. While the vocals are still gay as hell, the instrumentals are pretty good.

Black Sabbath/Ozzy. The vocals just annoyed me. They still do, but he had some great musicians working with him.

Iron Maiden. At first, I just liked a couple select songs and hated everything else, but I gradually started to like them more and more.

Queensryche. The vocalist was weird, and at first I couldn't see why anybody could like him.

80's Rush. Such a different style, it just put me off. Probably the hardest albums to get into I know of.

Slayer. Way too chaotic. Still is, but it's just fun to headbang to them.

How did they get that high?

Deathspell Omega

Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice was probably the third black metal album I listened to, and I had never really listened to metal or any kind of heavy music before, so I was essentially left wondering what happened during the last 80 minutes after it was over. Now I think it's very good.

Burzum's Filosofem and Sad Legend's self-titled album were the only black metal I'd listened to previously.

demilich
(old) in flames (what got me into metal)
mourning beloveth (until I heard forever lost emeralds)
swallow the sun
katatonia (except for the great cold distance which is awesome)
pig destroyer (prowler in the yard)

Mastodon

I heard the newer stuff and was like "...the fuck?"

Remission is badass though.

Mastodon have great stuff. They could use a real vocalist, though. Remission and Leviathan are amazing albums imo. Blood Mountain isn't half bad either.

marduk.

i love all the older stuff and once i got hooked on all that i started liking the newer albums, too.

Great job!! :kickass:

Same here, they just have a fucking stupid name. Decent sound.

Yep, same here. Just started to get their albums.
