I think it's just a matter of cars sucking in general. They're low-engineered, low-tolerance devices with weaknesses and stress points designed-in.

my friend has a Jetta. while he never was left at the side of the road, he has a lot of you may call them "insignificant" gremlins. like unexplained rattles developing in the interior, warning lights coming on for now reason, etc. If you are used to the sterile, clinical environments of Jap cars and you go to a VW, those things are a huuuuuuge deal, hence bad reviews and bad consumer ratings because of complaints.

I do still have a VW. Ironically, I just made an appointment two hours ago to bring it back to the dealer, because it's making a horrible squealing sound and my check engine light is on. Suffice it to say, VW is the only make of car I will never own again. These these are complete shit. Luckily for me, it's a lease and the car is under warranty for the entire lease.

Next... the 6-cylinder Mustang is on the short list. However, I'll take a look at what sort of lease deals are available on the Infiniti G37, as well as the Nissan Altima coupe. Any suggestions?

No. I went back and forth several times between this and the GLI, and ultimately made the wrong decision.

Have it on my Focus.. it's pretty nice, though not without it's flaws... such as when I tell it to play a certain album and it doesn't understand.. resulting in it defaulting to "Gin"

i don't think so ... I think the new ones are really hot! they get the most kudos from the press for best driving feel as well (when compared to the new batch of muscle cars out there anyway)
i'd get one if I didn't have a kid.
