I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

You're making me feel a little bad that I didn't pursue a Hyundai. For what it's worth, the Hyundai dealer around here is something of a joke. Their cars are a little....I dunno...red.

Fuck. Never mind. That Sonata is really nice but it's about $100 a month out of my price range. I refuse to have a monthly payment more than $300. You guys enjoy your $500 a month depreciating asset :loco:
Seriously though, what is this "documentation fee" bullshit? Dudes are asking $398 for whatever it is.

haha why do I get the impression you're sitting in the finance office with a Buttberry right now.

"Sign here please."
"Hang on, gotta check the HD Porn thread first."
"...sir?"

:loco:

hahaha ... some dealers charge $400, some $50 ... it's all bullshit markup for basically doing your paperwork, which they have to do anyway.

Oh dude I *would*
but this is all in the comfort of my home. I'm even going to make them deliver the shit to me at work tomorrow.

Yeah, I read up on it on Edmunds.com
He's not making it a secret or anything. Mentioned it right up front. It's just bullshit is all. If we can agree on a "drive out" price, thats all I care aboot.

its a shame really as a few year old Sonata I drove not that long ago was one of the best driving and put together cars in the price range.
they came a long way in the last few years ...

Out of all the vehicles that I have rented for various excursions, the Sonata drove the best. Surprisingly smooth and comfortably modest.

True. It's typical sales bullshit. I know all the tricks because the wife has been in sales for quite awhile. Although, she'd never stoop so low as to sell cars, I gather that the stories she's told me are all generally the same regardless of what field one is in.
The main problem I have with it is it says "PROVIDE A QUOTE" and they simply don't do it. It's an out and out lie.
They want you to come in person so they can pressure you. One time I had two guys stand in front of the exit when I was walking out on a car I couldn't really afford. After I brushed past them, I actually *ran* back to my car hahahahahahahahaha

HAHAHA  that is hilarious. mental movie clip.

Funny you should ask
OK, so you know how I've been trying to do this whole thing over the internet and all that....maybe even have the car delivered to me at work, etc. etc, right?
Well, it's been super busy this week with the wife staying at her Mom's, both of us having to rent cars because both of ours broke down on the same day, and I've been at work since thursday so I haven't been able to get shit done. On top of that, a couple of the internet guys just didn't want to commit to anything in an email. So I gave up on them. The only dude who wanted to work with me was the Honda guy. So I was going to get a 2010 Fit. We emailed as recently as yesterday about the vehicle. So, this morning, before having to be at work at 1030, I asked the wife to give me a ride to the Honda dealer (freaking 30 miles away) and when we got there, I sent her on her way. Well, the dude says, "ahhh...the one you wanted might be right out front here. Let me go check." He goes outside for a minute, comes back and says, "no. Wasn't it" and starts looking up stuff in a computer. He comes back and says, "well. Good news and bad news. The bad news is we traded that car to another dealer. The good news is, we'll have another one just like it coming in on Monday".
I was actually speechless for a minute.
Then I called the wife and asked her to turn around and pick me back up.

I don't even know what to say about that situation. How do you not know that you just traded a vehicle someone's going to BUY to another Honda dealer?
I suppose I should've called first and asked, "hey, you know that car we've been talking about all week? Yeah. Does it actually fucking exist?"

The wife took me home and I put my plate back on my truck, noticed it expired in July, and left for work. Less than five miles later, I ran out of gas and had to call the wife AGAIN to bring me a gas can.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Fucking horrible day.

Anyway, what's the deal with certified pre-owned cars? Have any experience with them? The only reason I'm buying a new one is because of the interest rates and the warranty. I'm not going to buy a used car with no warranty at an exorbitant interest rate. It'd actually cost less to buy a new one. But these CPO look like a decent deal.

well you get a long warranty on CPO's so that's good. also most dealers have similar finance deals on them as on new cars, so that's good too.
we bought one, Subaru Forester, a few years ago for the pops in law with 40K on the odo, and he didn't have any issues with it at all. zilch.

Adrian would approve of that trade.

@Aurel: I noticed the warranty begins when the car was originally in service with zero miles. So, on say, a 2006, there'd only be like two more years at most left on the "6 year/100,000 mile" CPO warranty. That's nothing to sneeze at really...but it's all rolled up into the price of the car so it's not like you're getting it for free. Another caveat is that you have to perform all scheduled maintenance at the dealer. Fuck that. $100 oil change anyone?
I guess it's all for piece of mind, which is great. But it's a gamble.

I might as well wait for that Fit to come in on Monday. I don't think anything is open tomorrow so it doesn't really matter anymore. I *am* pissed at that dealer though. That was pretty negligent to let me think a car I was going to buy was actually there.

great choice I think. should be pretty tossable from what I hear and deceptively roomy.
finance or purchase?
