Even if they got rid of him to get a better vocalist, why not find a male vocalist who could handle the job? Do you think Mike would have hired Angela is she were fat and very very ugly? No.

Mine, too, (actually mostly their album "Within The Veil", while I wasn´t that impressed with "Toxic Voodoo") - until I bought Atrox´ "Terrestrials" 3 years ago. Well, their vocalist Monika Edvardsen, who left the band after their latest album "Orgasm", sounds totally different from Dawn Crosby (RIP) - whom she also likes very much -, but I like her now at least as much as Dawn.DeathsSweetEmbrace said:Fear of God (my all time favorite female-fronted metal band)
I wouldn´t mind, as long as they don´t sound all the same. Actually, most metal bands I listen to nowadays are female-fronted. And I generally like female vocalists better than male vocalists. Even my very first metal album way back in 1984 - "Dancin` On The Edge" by Lita Ford (BTW, she also played guitar) - was female-fronted.So what do you all think of women in metal? Should there be more women in metal music?
Don´t know, if this is really true. If you think of bands from the eighties/early nineties - Warlock, Rock Goddess, Holy Moses, Chastain, Znowhite, Meanstreak, Phantom Blue, Original Sin, Détente/Fear Of God, Sacrilege, Zed Yago - none of them featured operatic vocals. And today, you still find a lot of females in metal bands who are not "of the operatic variety" like e.g. Agnete M. Kirkevaag (Madder Mortem), Monika Edvardsen (Ex-Atrox), Carmen Espenaes (Midnattsol), Sandra Schleret (Soulslide, Ex-Dreams Of Sanity), Nienke de Jong (Autumn), Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering - OK, they aren´t metal anymore) and many others.most females in metal bands are vocalists of the operatic variety
The original members of Phantom Blue, especially the guitarists Michelle Meldrum (she has now her own band called Meldrum) and Nicole Couch, were very good IMO. I don´t know if she counts as metal, but I think bassist Melissa auf der Maur isn´t bad either.BTW, who are some good female metal guitarists/bassists/drummers? I can't think of any.

There´s obviously a misunderstanding. I didn´t say that Fear Of God got a replacement for Dawn (actually, they don´t exist anymore - for further information check www.fear-of-god.com ). Atrox are a band from Norway and Monika Edvardsen was their singer - they have absolutely nothing to do with Fear of God resp. Dawn Crosby. I just meant to say that I like Monika Edvardsen (or her work with Atrox) even a bit more than Dawn Crosby. However, her vocals are, as I already said, totally different. I´d say, "Terrestrials" is something like a metal pendant to Kate Bush´s album "The Dreaming" - very original music (to avoid the word "progressive"), original lyrics and probably even more original vocals, thus definitely not everyone´s taste.DeathsSweetEmbrace said:re: Burkhard - I had no idea that Fear of God got a replacement for Dawn. To me, that seems like blasphemy, but if you say she's as good as Ms. Crosby, I'll check it out.
