Not a big Death Metal guy ? Explain why

So what's the problem with "unblack metal" in that case?

I’m unable to listen to it without taking it as a complete parody of the genre and I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s exactly what the bands are going for.

Would it be any different in any other genre of extreme metal?

Aside from Unblack metal, there is a huge Christian following in goregrind/deathgrind, which I think is WAY more absurd than black metal.

It's interesting because some bands like Horde won't even refer to themselves as black metal. He feels it's an ideological genre of music and he disagrees with the ideology behind black metal.

Ideology is definitely the forefront to black metal (besides "fashion" of course ;))

Forget riffs, just scream satan in front of a mic and there you go.

I dunno, I think more unblack metal has better dynamics too. Extol, Antestor...they have unique dynamics and evolution that I havent seen in most black metal bands (barring like...post-Euronymous Mayhem and Dodheimsgard)

The idea of goregrind having lyrics about anything but gore is a bit silly to me as well but it’s not an ideologically based anti-Christian genre of music so that’s a different subject.

Black metal is a genre that whose very foundation was built upon opposition to Christianity or organized religion.

One of Christianity's rules is to "abstain from the appearance of evil" or some other such shit.

To meld Christianity with black metal is to exhibit a fundamental misunderstanding of either; and it invalidates any legitimacy either may have had when combined. It cheapens the art. It may sound good on surface level but it strips it of any depth.

I wouldnt say it cheapens the art. Makes it absurd, sure but not necessarily cheap. And, at least with my experience, most of the Christian Black/Unblack metal stuff doesnt really go into super worship mode except for maybe early Kekal. Existentialism and hope seem to be the common themes, which doesn't make it any less absurd.

Sedimentum is a new OSDM/Caveman riff influenced band.

Holy fuck is it tiring to read every teenager that talks about death metal say “caveman riffs”

It’s also mildly comical that people went from hating Mortician to acting like they’re gods of the genre now.

Thats just what Ive been seeing them called. I couldnt tell you what the fuck it means.

I’ve mostly just seen complaints about Mortician from old school fans who won’t touch grind. Always been a fan.

Since everyone is doing it and I wanna feel like one of the kool kids

1.) Death - Human
2.) Gorguts - Obscura
3.) Autopsy - Mental Funeral
4.) Atheist - Pieces of Time
5.) Viraemia - Viraemia EP
6.) Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
7.) My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans
8.) Cannibal Corpse - Wretched Spawn
9.) Sedimentum - Demo 2019
10.) Necrophagist - Epitaph
ah, finally some recognition. That thing is worth whatever next 50 techdeath/gore albums put together. It's like a great wine, it doesn't need any effort to be fully enjoyed. There isn't a filler riff in that whole EP. And Pit of Pestilence is as good tech death metal as I've ever heard, the chorus is fkng musical brilliance, no less.

Necrophaggot. Yeah...boy, did they have a grip on me in the olden days. Anyone else here much prefer the first to the overrated second ?

Setting black metal's fart-huffing self-congratulating about "art" aside, the contradiction is purely aesthetic and in the end the music should speak for itself. If you come across a black metal band and you like how it sounds, and then discover it's Christian, deciding afterwards that it sucks sounds like a massive poseur move to me.

I can only speak for myself in saying that lyrics do or at least can play a significant role in my enjoyment of music. It might not completely ruin a band for me but preachy Christian lyrics are certainly going to lessen my opinion of them, and especially within the context of "black metal".
