The running man - part of the bachman books. .

I think Stephen King got 'The Running Man' from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
Know what I mean?

Ya know, staying up late and reading is bad, found out today. Was up til just after 1:30am, had to work at 4am, so get up at 3am to get ready and be able to drive to work on time. Tossed and turned for awhile til alarm went off, no sleep, then only got fleeting snoozes between snooze hits. About 5-10 mins sleep.
Try drinking some whiskey 30 minutes before bedtime. OR you could try reading "Insomnia" by Stephen King. Sorry Steve, but that one could cure Insomnia. (Although it did have some good parts, and Dark Tower stuff in it....)

Now, drinkin the Whiskey wouldn't have helped in their case. It was because I was so interested in a book that I read that late. I've read Insomnia, good book. Made me feel sorry for old people driving, until I went out driving that day.

Insomnia has about 500 pages of set-up that could have been shortened a little, but overall i did like it.

i loved Bag of Bones by King.

I didn't get outside of 100 pages in Bag Of Bones.

I read the Girl Who Loves Tom Gordon in one sitting, not because it was great just because it was short.

Kings upcomming retirement is probbaly a good idea.

haven't read bag of bones, I've heard mixed reviews, good, bad...

Insomnia did take awhile to build up, but it was good after it did.

I've read almost all of them. My cousin and I were at Barnes and Noble, I was like, alright, here are the S.K. books I've read, after the first shelf, we decided saying which I haven't read would be better.

Bag of Bones was so shitty I stopped reading King entirely for a few years. It's Thra:rofl:ude's fault I started again. DAMN YOU!!!

i really should clarify--I did the audio book of Bag of Bones and King read it. He's fun to listen to when he reads his books. I usually enjoy the ones he reads.

Brat, did you actually read the whole book or stop during the first 250 pages of setup? Just curious. King has this problem with massive amounts of setup! Sometimes, I feel you have to get thru his setup to get to the good parts of his books.

I'll tell you a shitty book-not by King--Left Behind. All these people love that series. that book was so shittily written, so simple-minded, and had such simple shallow characters, I could not read anymore of the books after that. I have no idea why so many people like that book.

At work I am reading "High Flight" by David Hageberg. It isn't bad, although it is not as good as I was hoping. "Assassin" was a better book by the author. For people who like Clancy, you might want to check it out. At home, I am just starting "Hades Factor" by Robert Ludlum and somebody else- name escapes me right now. Ludlum is a great espionage writer.

@GASOLINEDREAM:
I read the entire book. My problem with that much setup is when the ending falls flat, it's just so shitty that you wasted so much time waiting for the monumental thing to happen and it's just downright disappointing. Much like Rose Madder, that I just read a few weeks ago. Another flat ending.

I've read all the Left Behind books. Not that I really wanted to, I just got it in my head I should finish the series. And I kept hearing from my sister (who's usually right about books) and my mother-in-law how great they all were. The last three have been so horrible though, I'm done with it. I'm tired of getting preached at, and I'm tired of one entire book taking place in 1 or 2 days-now that's too much setup. BTW, if you thought the characters were shallow, you'll be happy to know that Chloe got worse and worse with each book, except the last one. Decapitation rules!! (when it's the right person)

I don't do audio books. I don't know why. I just prefer reading them myself.

not into books at all,i couldnt stand reading a 300 page book to discover it has a lame ending,my dad reads alot and after reading a 500 page book he will say it wasnt a good read,i cant understand that at all.

Why listen to audio when you could be listening to music and reading?

I drive about 40 miles one way to work, so it gets long after a while. Morning radio sucks. Afternoon radio sucks. I have about 1600 CD's, but I can't 100 % get into music all the time. So, my wife suggested audio books and now i am hooked. it fills in a big waste of time with essentially--reading except I don't read, I just listen. I love it. I hadn't done a novel in over 6 years except on plane trips for work. Now, i do at least 10 books a year, give or take a few, depending on how long they are. And I always do the unabridged versions.

Brat, I love your decapitation comment. I could have used some of that in that first book. Everything in that book was so plainly written. This person was ok because they were so extremely religious--not only that, they were smarter even. This person was a doubter, so they were gonna have to fight the devil and maybe get killed and they were pretty dumb, this person, blah, blah, blah. Oh my god, i could not take how biased all the characters were. If you were super religious, you were in heaven already. It was super simplified. If not, you were in hell already. WHATEVER. I must admit, i had issues with it, from the very beeginning with the way the rapture happened and it went downhill from there.

Never done Rose Madder.

Want a messed up book, that if you read not thinking and just saying ok, is Catch-22, if you read it and try to understand it, you'll want to kill yourself. I first read it in high school and didn't try to analyze it, I tried reading it a year ago, and actually making sure I understood it, I couldn't. And I wanted to kill myself.
