O/T: What are you reading? part 2

I liked Rose Madder. But King's masterpieces are the old ones for me. Needful Things, Pet Sematary and The Shining. Oh and The Night Shift. It kills as well.

Pet Sematary was my first King book, too. I was 12. My English teacher nearly creamed her pants that I was reading a novel. I read Needful Things my freshman year. I was halfway through it, and my science teacher came over, asked how I liked it, and then proceeded to tell me the ending! He starts going into more detail and I was like Dude! Shut the fuck up! And he sat there deciding if he should write me up or not, and I told him if he did I'd get my English teacher on his ass. And he believed me, cause my English teacher that year was huge on extra credit book reports, and I'd already given her stacks of them. I always think of that when I think of that book.

Want a messed up book, that if you read not thinking and just saying ok, is Catch-22, if you read it and try to understand it, you'll want to kill yourself. I first read it in high school and didn't try to analyze it, I tried reading it a year ago, and actually making sure I understood it, I couldn't. And I wanted to kill myself.

Catch 22 is about how unbelievably insane and unnecessary war is, that is all it is, that and a great piece of literature.

Colonel Cathcart
I want a promotion, so I screw over all my men.

Yossarian
I want to get out of here, so I walk around naked and pretend to be sick.

Colonel Cathcart
Fine. Praise us, and we'll let you go home.

Yossarian
No. I'll desert instead, because I've learned that war is crazy, and it's bad too, because it makes people do really weird things and die. Also, high ranking military officers are evil incarnate.

Easily Deluded Reader
Look at all the subtext. This must be one of the greatest anti-war pieces of our time.

Hehehe. I know. But that guy seriously had it coming. I ended up dropping his class halfway through the year because he freaked me out so bad. I couldn't figure out why, til my best friend put her finger on it-"lingering stares". Every girl in the class got one like every day. It was just downright creepy. I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was especially bad because I had to sit in the front row. Damn teachers and their need to alphabetize everything!

i've never liked reading books, so i guess that makes me a dumb weirdo who has no patience. i simply don't have the patience to read through hundreds of pages. i find it frustrating and tedious. everytime i try to get myself into reading i only make it 1/4 of the way through the book before giving up...!

maybe someone can recommend me something to convert me to reading? am i missing that much????

You should read Night Shift. It's a bunch of cool short stories, so you don't have to read 'hundreds of pages' to finish a story.

Another good collection of short stories is The Stories of Ray Bradbury. They'rrrrre GREAT!

I haven't chimed in, because I was either in class (readinng shitty texts) or in Denver, reading ad's for escort girls.
Last two books I finished:When You Ride Alone, You Ride With Bin Laden by Bill Maher. Great book about the common sense way to deal with terrorism.
AndSex, Money, KISS by: Gene Simmons, hilarious look at how to be successful in all walks of life. I am now reading Theocrittus.

Robin Williams had a couple ideas to take care of hunting down the Taliban. One involved Ted Kacyzinski (We've got Ted Kacyzinski sitting around with nothing to do, "here you go Ted, here's a mailing list." "have they been bad?" "oh very bad Ted." "I'll need some supplies", "of course you will."
New York Sewer rats, let them into the caves.

Bill Maher can be very very amusing--aside from some stupid comments he shouldn't have made in the past thst people get all bitchy about now, he's great. One time, on his HBO show, he had some guys sing a song called "He's fucking my lady"--it was hysterical.

I think the man is brilliant. I'm pretty liberal though. That being said, all the conservative fucks that don't like him can stick it. Conservatives don't know how to have a good time, unless it's at the NRA convention or something.
