I definitely agree with this, but the whole thing in the 80's was to go against the grain in terms of expectations for a man, a sort of transformation that made coming on stage in tight pants, studs and ridiculous hair the most hetero thing one could do. As we all know, it's the clean cut, preachy WASPS that are usually the child-fuckers.
