That does not mean that there are no homosexuals in India. What it means is that homosexuality is unacceptable in Indian culture and, therefore, no one will admit it. The fact that it is never acknowledged there only means that it's ignored or swept under the rug.

Having said that, I'm not trying to be critical of Indian culture.
What I was trying to stress on is that those "special set of genes" (again, assuming that holds true) don't compulsarily have to be acting towards making someone like men. Perhaps it acts in ways other than guys liking guys as well?

Yes, there probably are people in India who are homosexual. And perhaps in the first part of my last big post, I'm assuming that the gene is actually absent from every Indian's body. But assume just for a second that this is true. That certain parts of the world DO NOT have that modified version of their sexual-preference gene in them.. then wouldn't your argument be an assumption too?

it's tough to comment on sexuality right now. As I said before, our knowledge on it is VERY limited (hell, it wasn't that long ago where homosexuality was deemed a mental illness), in the next 4 500 years I'd imagine we will have a much more solid understanding of sexuality

It would. But there's no reason to believe that Indians "can't" be gay. It makes perfect sense, however, that Indians won't allow themselves to accept that they are gay; as that is common in many cultures.

I never said they can't be gay. I was just highlighting a possibility.

And yes, perhaps they don't. But that also is a speculation.

The fact is that the preponderance of the current evidence suggests that there is a likely biological link between homosexuality and certain genetic/structural differences, and there is nothing as of yet to suggest that this is not possible in certain areas of the world. For all we really know, perhaps everyone has the propensity to be gay, and the genetic differences only determine the likelihood. Obviously sociocultural differences also play a factor, there's no denying that. But 1) there does seem to be a correlation between homosexuality and genetic differences and 2) this does not seem to be restricted to certain cultures, regardless of its level of acceptance.

I mean fuck, nobody knew cowboys could be gay until last year.

I think it has very little to do with sociocultural differences. Looking at high school society it's easy to say that 5-10 years ago you didn't have half as many gay and bisexual people as you do today. It's more acceptable, and more and more people are coming out of the closet than ever before. It's hard to identify the causes as of yet but seeing the overall growth of tolerance and acceptance of homosexuality and bisexuality in American culture it's very easy to say that everyone has the capability to be gay or bi. I disagree, I think it's all genetic, simply because it's "cool" to be gay or bi right now.

People who are arguing that being gay is a lifestyle choice might also want to take note of the fact that homosexual activity has been documented (and I mean scientifically documented, not "a guy saw two penguins bumming once") in a lot of animal species as well. If you can agree that it is not very likely that a penguin made a "lifestyle choice" to be homosexual then maybe you can also agree that it is quite likely the same thing applies to humans.

To me it seems that the people who dislike homosexuals and go for the "it's a lifestyle" approach only hold this view because it makes it easier for them to rationalize their hatred and sleep at night when they hate someone because of a choice that person allegedly made instead of for the way they were born.

Fucking exactly, I was just about to say it. Especially with all these scene kids around. I think 90 percent of the girls I am friends with (many of them my ex's) are bisexual. I know many gay kids and plenty of bisexual guys (of which one currently has the hots for me.)

I have nothing at all against gay people. I think actually being gay is genetic, but there are many high school age kids out there today that are just trying to seem different or are saying they are gay just because it is cool. Half of them aren't even old enough to even understand anything about sexuality, love, and relationships in the first place.

some of these are not the greatest quality:erk: but still good photos:)

I completely agree.

You would.

This discussion is not about recent cultural trends and shifts of tolerance and influence, but rather pure, true accounts of hetero and homosexual dispositions.

I don't think it's logical to entirely discount the impacts of sociocultural influence in practically any and all behavioral matters. I'm not talking about social pressure and tolerance of homosexuality, I'm talking about sociocultural influences, which accounts for everything in the world outside of the genetic makeup of the person. It's very unlikely that very many things are purely genetically based, but rather a combination of genetics and social influence (e.g. nature and nurture). Perhaps there is a genetically established proclivity toward the possibility of homosexuality, and the particular sociocultural circumstances of that individual (not simply a tolerant neighborhood and supportive family) further assist in pushing that individual one way or another.

Basically, I'm saying not to discount the sociocultural influences entirely without having absolute knowledge of the facts (which you don't).
