I don't really think so. If anything, I think The Olden Domain would be preferred, by most, over Quintessence. And on top of that, I'd say that their first five albums were pretty well-received.

I feel like Amorphis aren't really known for any single album, though; Tales is pretty big as well.

Very true; and in all honesty, their two most recent albums have really drawn in a huge crowd of listeners. People on this thread keep listing their own personal preferences. The truth is, their two most recent albums have been well-received and praised.

People need to separate their own interests and likes from the facts. Just because some people here only like The Karelian Isthmus doesn't mean that that album was Amorphis' only hit. In truth, they've been very successful.

disagree with all of those except Orphaned Land (who I've never actually listened to). Napalm Death - FETO was even better than Scum, and have you even listened to Never, Neverland? that album is a thrashterpiece.

blasphemy's second album gets mentioned plenty tbh. so do various godflesh albums although maybe not in the metal community. demoncy's 'sylvan realms' is nearly as well regarded as JiD, or at least it used to be. don't really agree with blut aus nord either, the early stuff is really highly regarded by those who've heard it, and these days a lot of people have. or arghoslent. or loads of others mentioned here actually. 'only known for one of their albums' does not mean 'has one album that's a bit more well known than the others'

What i meant by both of these is that no one seems to mention their other albums. When October Tide is brought up, Grey Dawn is immediately thought of and same with Edge of Sanity Crimson I.

How exactly is that Slayer's only hit album?

Obviously it's not, but my impression is that people identify Slayer with that album far more than with any others.
