Tech metal bands

The first Psychotic Waltz album 'A Social Grace' is being rereleased very soon. I know that a lot of people considered them one of the first Tech Metal bands with Sieges Even/Watchtower.

you should pick up Prophet of the Last Eclipse then. He uses no less that 4 different choirs and a Icelantic Opera singer, just to start to give you a idea on Complexity..
Sounds awesome! I do need to get around to checking out his albums. I wasn't really considering complexity in the whole "tech-metal" thing, though... so I guess I stand corrected.

Into Eternity and Decapitated I both listen to already. Awesome fucking bands.

I'm listening to Pagan's Mind right now. This is awesome stuff. More progish...but still really solid stuff

:headbang:

in response to the "technicality to the point where it's no longer music" comment, i agree. Stuff like spiral architect bores the hell out of me because there is no song. Just "bullshit bullshit wank wank bullshit"

for a great technical metal band, have you heard this little band called symphony x? I know a lot of people here haven't heard of them... :D

Luca Turilli's first album (King Of The Nordic Twilight) is not half as good as his second (Prophet Of The Last Eclipse). Prophet Of The Last Eclipse is much "bigger" sounding than King Of The Nordic Twilight and songs are generally written a lot better. I suggest Prophet Of The Last Eclipse before King Of The Nordic Twilight (still an enjoyable record).

i usually try to keep it low-key in terms of pitching my music, but since you DID ask about technical metal:

my solo stuff is definitely technical metal: lots of odd-meter, intricate arrangements, technical soloing, etc. it's also pretty "song oriented": no "noodling for noodling's sake".

don't know if my type of music is what you're looking for, but here's a couple of low-bandwidth samples:
