I like General Surgery, I'll admit that. I really like the Impaled album that plays out like a horror movie... Death After Life, it's not overly similar though. Necrony was good too, but they were just playing swedish death metal that looked like carcass stuff. I cant remember more off the top of my head.

The long song times on symphonies bugs the crap out of me too. (and necroticism) I feel like they're dragging on and albums of that type should really be under 40 minutes..


I actually bought the first two... and was excited to get them. I tried to listen to them, and ended up giving one away for free and selling the other.

MDB/PH/Dismember

I'm not huge on OSDM, but we have like, at least half a dozen of those albums on this list, and not one death/doom album, so the recent minus votes for Turn Loose The Swans irk me a bit.
 
i like death/doom quite a bit, i just think MDB sucks dick. i'd rather see a Winter or Autopsy album on here (although i guess only the second Autopsy album is really all that doomy). even Disembowelment.

though i did like My Dying Bride a lot when i was first getting into metal and a few of their albums are decent the majority of their material isn't very good, and i don't think it really belongs in a top list.
 
Disembowelment is great when it's great, but that's a spotty album. I feel like they underachieved in their career, even though they had a good run with their more psychedelic songs. Turn Loose The Swans is a better hour of music. I agree that they (MDB) sort of suck for a while in the middle period, but I wouldn't hold that against their best work. The Dreadful Hours and Songs of Darkness, Words of Light have a lot going for them, but I haven't heard much good about the work after that.
