The Art Thread

Where the fuck have I seen that from.

Hubster's avatar for a while, before he switched back to Nortt.

:)

It's also the cover of one of my favourite albums of Religious and Profane Renaissance Music:

I find architecture to be my favorite visual art form because it's on a larger scale and serves a practical purpose.

Such as cathedrals. These are the ones I visited in Europe last summer.

I'm a fan of classical and medieval art and architecture. Beyond that, I'm not really into it, especially the modern stuff.

Read up on Bauhaus school, you'll change your mind :)

As medieval (especially religious) and baroque architecture served a purpose, so did Bauhaus.

Medieval architecture (in context of churches) had a sole purpose for music. Bauhaus was about function and did it brilliantly. Countless designers and architects have mimicked it since.

EDIT: Awesome pics Zeph

Wow man, Im quite impressed. Especially those Sketches and Decollages. ( not sure how to spell that)

Thanks man. Yes, they're décollages. Décollage is essentially the "opposite" of a collage, wherein you remove, manipulate, and distort various fragments of an original image and place the pieces in a new plane where they're arranged. I did those in Photoshop, as it says, and I'm actually really happy with them. There's a really nice variety of textures, feelings and shapes all over, but sometimes it isn't completely disorienting and could even have a small bit of structure...one has cell-like shapes which take up a good part of it and make it more homogeneous, and the first one I did has kind of a frame around the bottom-left area which was accidental but quite cool regardless.

I may actually have an installation in the university gallery using those as the visual media and some of my non-harsh/not-as-harsh noise/sound as the audio for visitors to simultaneously experience. The installation would focus on how two different types of media can be similar though experienced with differing senses most likely. I'd need to make 3 or 4 more décollage pieces though, and I haven't done one in a few months, so...eh. Eventually, though, I hope! Thanks for the nice comments.

Sounds similar to what I did for my final high school year major artwork - it was based on cityscapes: I walked about and took a shitload of photos, distorted them with a photocopier, and then also did a drawing of some the photos I took. Around the drawings were the distorted photocopies, arranged in particular manner, depending on building design and structure, and also blending in with the drawing at the same time.

I had this whole thing slightly 3 dimensional as well - I used Polystyrene to "mount" the drawing on, having stuck the drawing to it, and then that whole thing was based onto pinewood, which was further covered by the photocopies.

I still have it at my Dads... I think I might even have a photo of it somewhere...

I'll try to dig them up... the photos are damn old... I'll have to trek over to my Dad's one weekend and take newer, more decent ones. I still have the work sitting in my old room.

I am a pretty big fan of Robert Crumb's psychedelic drawings that he did away from his comic book stuff, which I am not a fan of.

I'm not a big fan of big over the top Cathedrals. Sure they are amazing in their own way but I've always liked the small roman style churches instead. They give me a more genuine impression of spirituality and just feels ...cooler somehow. Hard to explain. Like this one:
