The Art Thread

There are many UMers here with loads of artistic talent. My sister is the only one in my family that has what could be considered artistic talent. Though, I can still play by ear better than she can ;)

Collaborative installation project I did with friends this weekend.

Spraypainted cardboard and foamcore squares, affixed to the wall and extending onto a wall we created out of white foamcore. The project was to use 75 (25 each person) 12x12" squares to alter the installation area in some way. We succeeded, but being limited to 75 squares was disappointing and lame; for the huge juried show at the end of this semester, we will likely expand this piece to rather giant proportions!

Also, before people say there aren't 75 squares, our extra-wall is made of two panels which total 25 squares. In addition, all the white squares (negative space) counted towards the total. This both ruled and sucked; we did not have enough cardboard/foamcore to produce the excess of non-implied squares...we could either declare the negative space to be "implicative" or "non-implicative", not "some are, some aren't" for obvious reasons...however, it was bad because if we had prepared more and it wasn't due the next fucking day [we worked 5 hours straight conceptualizing, painting and affixing/creating everything, though :p] we could have done some even more extensive stuff!

Good stuff. Kinda hard to tell what it really looks like from only one perspective, though.

I might need someone to help me with my band's demo we are going to be putting out. 100 copies on tape. 50 with blue covers and 50 with red. Its post-rock in the vein of Explosions In The Sky and Pelican. No vocals or anything with really long songs. Anyways so if anyone with good artwork would like to help that would be great! It would just be simple drawing and stuff.

Ah, okay. It sorta looks like it's just hanging there, and that no one's bothered to glue it to the wall yet. :)

Depends on what you want, I could maybe wrap something up if it doesn't seem like too much work (I'm lazy and busy). :p

In that case, I second what I said.

If you have to interpret it for a class, use your imagination and describe what it makes you feel along with any relevant information you can gather (the title means "The Reveries of the Solitary Wanderer" iirc). No matter what you say as long as it has some kind of rational thought put into it you should do fine.
