The awesome anime thread.

Hmm, I just discovered that Shigurui was made by the same people who made Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze, it makes a lot of sense actually now that I'm thinking about it. Shigurui has in common with Texhnolyze that none of the caracters really are symphatic, and it has that same pretentious vein. With that said Shigurui's still awesome imo, the story actually goes somewhere right away and it doesn't have as much of those artsy fartsy scenes.

I'm watching Monster right now. I only have maybe 8 episodes left, I kinda like it but it's damn slow. It seems to keep going at the same pace all the time, never really picking up or slowing down.

Gungrave is one of my favourite animé. The entire flashback arc is awesome, and also the last few episodes. The first episode and the mindless fighting in between the end of the flashback arc and the ending are the only low points.

I really, really liked Code Geass aswell, but I didn't notice many of the supposed plot holes in it. The cast was great and the ending was brilliant though.

Darker Than Black is next on my list after I finish Monster. I've heard great things about it.

The Only anime I ever enjoyed was Dragon Ball z. Might (if i ever have time) finish the trilogy with Dragon Ball GT on youtube, even though the person who created dragonball z quit after its end. Someone else wrote GT and I've heard they really messed up the trilogy.

edit - I'd alo like to mention dragon ball z has one of the most fucked up endings in the history of anime. If you've seen it you should know exactly what I'm talking about.

Dragon Ball GT is like all the shitty stuff about DBZ multiplied by 10. Seriously, if you take all clips of fighting from the entire series and put them together you will probably get 30 minutes tops.

I think my favourite Miyazaki is Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I really like the theme and setting. I've always been a fan of fiction dealing with "Atlantis style" lost civilizations. When it comes to Miyazaki I generally prefer the epic adventures to his more surreal tales like Totoro or Spirited Away.

Laputa is the best Miyazaki film. Princess Mononoke maybe good but Laputa is even better. Some of his more surreal work is not best, but like you said, I think he's best at adventure stories.

Laputa is definitely better than Princess Mononoke, I think the latter was pretty anticlimactic.
I've just started watching Himitsu, looks like it can be a good one.
Trey Azagthoth's favourite anime's are Sailor Moon and Gundam...wtf?

Laputa is perfect as it is. Princess Mononoke is good but it needs improvement in terms of how the whole plot turns. Did you know that Miyazaki does not create the whole plotline in the beginning? He develops the plot while making the thing. "Howl's Moving Castle" is great, even though ending felt cut short.

I knew Azagthoth of Morbid Angel likes Sailor Moon. Hell, I think it is cute too.. I started watching a bunch of their episodes.. I did not know he likes Gundam though.

Well Sailor Moon is too pansy even for me hehe.

I've downloaded the Cowboy Bebop series now, I've seen the first episode 2 times already a long time ago, but never continued to watch for some reason.

Excel Saga
Cowboy Bebop
Death Note
Neon Genesis Evangelion
X
Outlaw Star
Dragon Ball Z
School Rumble

Akira
Princess Mononoke
Naussica
Spirited Away
Ghost in The Shell

I found a nice little series called Kino's Journey. It's definitely worth checking out if you like your anime laid back and thoughtful.
