THE band recommendations thread. THE.

Has The Old Dead Tree been suggested?
wideeyed.gif

Their website says the band "the band has developed its own unique style to combine extreme metal, pop music and dark rock... particularly distinguishes itself by the use of exceptional vocals and sliding from one style to another." Seasons of Mist is the record label.

I suggest you click here to automatically start the download of "We Cry As One", unzip the bitch and enjoy the fck out of it! If you don't like the sounds of that, click here at least and pick something from their audio page to download. I dare you!

Come ooooon! You know you want it.

I didn't read any of this, but if I could recommend you one band it would be

Ozric Tentacles

They're a ..??... band. Can't describe them, it's instrumental they're unique. I also heard Mikael from Opeth likes them. Not metal but please check them out, you WON'T regret it

too bad Lykathea Aflame and Naglfar have already been mentioned, heh

aside from them i recommend Aborted. They're a very heavy GoreGrind band. think Withered Earth, Cannibal Corpse and Hate Eternal mixed together. good stuff ;)

Some quite different, rarely mentioned bands:

Skepticism - THE best funeral-doom band out there (songs to get: The Gallant Crow, The March And The Stream)

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - A German band that somehow merges almost all possible styles of metal into coherent albums (songs to get: Licked By The Tongues Of Pride, Reitermania, Warum)

Cult Of Luna - Heavy, hardcore-rooted, epic, dark, progressive stuff (songs to get: Genesis, The Watchtower, Receiver)

Thursday - Something completely un-metal; somewhere between emo, hardcore and rock, but VERY recommendable (songs to get: Cross Out The Eyes, Understanding In A Car Crash, Jet Black New Year)

Spastic Inc:Ron Jarzombek at his best...great tech metal.get "Peppered Cancer"

Sieges Even:german tech metal band...get "tangerine Windows of Solace"

The Dillinger Escape Plan: fucked up band doin some strange things...best described as tech metal.

all these band should be known to you,but i listed them anyway, because nobody did before.

Psychotic Waltz:its a wonder almost nobody doues know this band, because the have the mostz beautiful and tasteful solos ever in prog metal history,Buddy Lackey smokes everyone(yes also Daniel Gidenlöw) on the mic.and their songwriting is unbelievable...great ix between psychedelic dreamjourneys, ballads, slightly tech.(all imo)

cool Guitarists to check out:

Michael LeeFirknis...beautiful mix between rock and "country"...much hybrid picking, excellent Tone..

Ron thal:tappingmaster with cool ideas and funny lyrics,no boring shred orgies

Matthias IA Ekhlund:same vein as Thal but totally different...

Andi Timmons:technically "advanced" nice song writing.

Shame on me. I didn't know there was good metal bands from our lovely Quebec.

Even then, we still don't have a BIG band. :erk:

I think the biggest band we've got is Kataklysm, which is pretty well known. There's also Quo Vadis that has many fans around the world, and Neuraxis which are currently touring Europe. That's a great event for them!

Pi si tu veux un bon site pour les nouvelles de la scène métal à Qc, essaye ça: www.metalzine.com

Estradasphere is pretty damn fine band. Check http://www.estradasphere.com. Lot's of samples.
Estra plays very different style songs, from mario to jazz to black metal.
WOW! this band is great!
They play and sing in many different genres including jazz and shoobydoo-op beachboy type vocals, all done with wit and style. These guys sound like they having a hell of a time! Definately not metal, though there are moments, and definately recommended for fans of like-minded groups such as Mr.Bungle.
