After going to an electronic music festival I've realized there's a lot more to it than I thought. So many possibilities for strange rhythms, breaks, disjunctions, textures, etc.
Ondar was born near the Khemchik River in western Tuva. Considered a living treasure by the Republic of Tuva, Ondar is granted a stipend and an apartment for the musical skills he possesses. Jovial and personable, Ondar is probably the best-known face of khöömei (Tuvan: хөөмей throat singing to Westerners, appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman and in interviews for CNN and other networks.
He died after emergency surgery for a brain hemorrhage in Kyzyl on July 25, 2013. He was 51 years old
This is awesome! There were a few Mongolian bands that I use to listen to that had throat singing, Yat Kha and Huun Huur Tu and you just reminded me of them. Was reminded of this band... could've sworn they had throat singing too, but the songs I heard on youtube didn't have singing. Still beautiful music though
