The "What Are You Doing This Moment" Thread

Dunno about Australia, but they've become kind of known courtesy of Daniel Sturridge's arrival.

I don't follow the sport at all, kinda surprised you even knew the team, but they are small fry here. Less than 10k members - as a comparison there are 2 australian rules football teams in the city with combined 150k members.

You'd struggle to find a pub showing a soccer/football game.

AFL is gay these days and not in the good way.

Soccer is absolute faggotry though.

Yeah, agree, mostly. I don't really buy into the 'game's gone soft' argument but I definitely don't enjoy watching it as much as I used to. In contrast I find NRL has improved a lot, never used to like it but it is a relentlessly fast game these days and I can happily watch a game now and then.

New It's absolutely gone soft.

Have you played? I played until about 5 years ago and I have an xray record the size of War and Peace, not to mention a few concussions. At elite level the game is faster than ever and collisions happen 360deg and at speed. All sports are moving to better protect head injuries so nothing unique about AFL there.

Well yeah, all sports are getting softer in general. The NBA has players that flop harder than soccer players these days. Across the board the umpires/refs have become fags and the rules on hard contact have become more and more strong. Just the nature of things.

But no I haven't played footie since I was like 17. Rulings on high contact is the most obvious change since the early 00's though.

Only halfwits call football soccer. And people who have no real connection with it anymore, so everything falls into place perfectly in this case :tickled:.

There are still hard-playing guys in football, e.g. Arturo Vidal and Pepe. They are no Gattusos or Nigel de Jongs, though.

pepe’s a bad example imo, more of a pathetic cheater than a genuinely hard dude lol. there aren’t many roy keanes or vinnie joneses out there anymore alas.

re: daniel sturridge, my driving instructor told me he tried to teach him to drive but he was too scared because he was in a fatal car crash when he was young. shame the guy was always too injured to really reach his potential.

i’m pretty disillusioned with football atm, an awful lot of things i don’t like about it compared to 20+ years ago. i probably spend more time watching darts and basketball than anything else these days.

u r right, i shouldve said Sergio Ramos. Pepe has haid a lot of "crying" moments as well

ramos is just a master shithouser, more like a robbie savage or dennis wise to me lol, or pat beverley to give an NBA comp. not really a tough guy who'd beat the shit out of you in an alleyway like the ones i mentioned.

i hope covid comes back and sends the world into lockdown so none of the teams left in the CL can win it :(

edit: lmao this game is the funniest shit though
