Networking, I guess you could say. I've been self-isolating for a while and things kind of hit a culmination the other day; it was a disaster. Needless to say, engaging with communities is important and I'm trying to start doing that again, which includes here. I want to try to start being around more.

Personally I'm rooting for its demise. I check back here once a year or so, and every time I'm bummed it still exists.

Bulletin boards were the peak of social media. There are 6 or more other ones I post on these days. I still love you, Ultimate Metal.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's slowly dying. I never thought it would be this way. It's my all-time fav forum, but it seems people are coming on here less and less, judging by the main forum and when the last posts were added. Sad.

being bummed that this forum still exists is a super weird take, forums were so much better than most of the social media crap that's replaced them.

Reddit is cool tho. You have band subsections there, where you can discuss anything you want, and it's more interactive. I guess it's the future for social media. Boards like this one seem obsolete, even though we love them. Anyways, I'll always keep popping in here from time to time. This fucking place, like it or not, shaped my metal taste to a great extent, and I remember the majority of bands that I discovered thanks to it. A huge debt of gratitude. Good times were had as well. These fucking Themed Song games were ace, as well as album rankings and best songs on each album.

reddit has no sense of community though most of the time, it's just random faceless drones and most of them seem to have the same personality. it also suffers from the usual social media issue of defaulting to the most popular comments and reinforcing groupthink. plus if you don't jump on a post the day it was posted you're often already too late to get any interaction.

i do quite like discord though.

Yeah, that shit fucks me up. Sometimes even if you do jump on quickly you get zero interaction. I can't think of a website I hate more, but I still find myself using it now and then.

no, but if someone has to get shot it should probably be the guy who endlessly drones on about how gun fatalities are a small price to pay for preserving the 2nd amendment. he was deliberately fostering exactly the kind of landscape that leads to shit like this happening.

I vaguely remember his original rise to fame, and even though I've never really agreed with let alone willingly watched kirk he has nontheless become a 'familiar face' so to speak and it's fucking weird to watch him gorily expire in 5 seconds in high-definition video.

I'm not a big "speech is violence" kind of guy so I wouldn't say he had it coming (and it's surely a great tragedy to his wife and young children), but he did seem like kind of a huge pos so I can't exactly blame people for (and may have participated in) mocking his death.

re: forums own and I miss them, but if this place is to ever have a resurgence the servers need to stop sucking ass. at times I've returned to this board and tried to post things only for the servers to just yeet my posts into the void. and what the fuck happened to the search function? deron get you act together ffs
