Worst metal albums of all time

I think Symphony X - Odyssey shoulf be counted. Compared to the other SX-albums, that is. Sounds like...

But ok.

Wotan - Carmina Barbarica - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Worst EVER.

I can't stand any of Dragonforce's stuff. Most black metal (not all of it) because anyone with a guitar can write black metal- it doesn't even have to be tuned. Mallcore shit's a given. A lot of Shrapnel shredders' stuff bores the crap out of me too. Yngwie's stuff throughout pretty much the past decade and a half (even though I, for one, really liked Facing the Animal- first Yngwie album I heard, still a favorite).

Yngwie was never on Shrapnel. It's cool that you even know about shrapnel, but man do they have some good records over there. I can't believe you find the stuff boring

Shrapnel had an over abundance of talent, however where they lacked was diversity. Almost every album sounds the same from the mid eighties, Mike Varney tended to use the same engineer and his own ear.

So for example talented guys like Vinnie Moore and Tony Macalpine virtually had very similar sounding albums. The guitars sound almost exact even though they both had totally different sounds live and used different gear.

So I could see someone who is neutral or not really a fan of any of the shrapnel guys could get easily annoyed. Just with the production alone. if your not a fan of instrumental guitar or that neo classical type stuff the production wouldnt matter anyway.

psh Shrapnel.

yea they've turned out some pretty large names in guitar, but nowadays most of the people still interested in even submitting stuff to that label are 30-year old Paul Gilbert wannabes who still live with their parents.

I'll chime in and agree that 95% of Shrapnel releases are boring as hell. Glaring exceptions being anything with Jason Becker or Paul Gilbert on it (although much of the old Racer X stuff sounds extremely extremely dated). I dig some of Vinnie Moore's stuff too.

This might be splitting hairs, but Yngwie was on Shrapnel for the s/t Steeler release. I'm pretty sure he was discovered by, or got his first break from, Mike Varney.

As far as instrumental stuff, the first 2 MacAlpine albums rank right up there IMO. The only others I really liked were Moore, Becker, Friedman. I've gotten into Howe and Gilbert more recently.

I wouldn't be so quick to count them, considering the skull-duggery and criminal behavior that went into contracting Ron to that label. I also wouldn't count it, because he is at present unable to own or perform any of that music as far as I know. Regardless of the other great artists that Shrapnel USED to be known for, I find it insulting to even consider Ron to have ever been a Shrapnel artist, only because he was so atypical to what normally makes up the artist roster over there in Varney-land.

This is totally a taste thing, of course, but for me it really gets to the point where I go, "Oh. He raised the seventh. Harmonic minor. Totally didn't see that coming." Now, I didn't say ALL of the releases on Shrapnel, because there are definitely talented guys who released music with Shrapnel, but by talented I mean songwriting and phrasing wise. Speed alone does not impress me and will not keep me listening.

Its quite simple...he put out two albums that were put out on Shrapnel...he was a Shrapnel artist for two albums in the 90's....it doesn't matter if Mike Varney tried to fuck him over...they exist.

Now i dated/fucked a blonde chick many years ago....i usually go for brunettes...she treated me bad too.....does that mean it didn't happen/count...i might have to go and buy some putty and fill in that particular notch in my bedpost in that case.

i agree that b-foot wasn't your average Shrapnel guy...but he was only brought up after this was posted

Fine fine, I agree, based on logic, yes he was a Shrapnel artist. But it's just kinda one of those things that most people who know him try and erase from ever happening (like the residents of Springwood tried to do to Freddy Krueger).

fuck yeah Harry And The Hendersons is on.

based on logic

Logic rules :)

In the mid-late 90's Shrapnel did try and diversify a bit with Ron, Haji's Kitchen, Downstroke and a few others....now they are just releasing wash ups like Bang Tango, LA Guns, Brides of Destruction etc as far as i can tell.
