According to Slipknot Opeth is mainstream...

Go fuck yourself, dude. I've been on the metal scene since 1985. I've been there and done that. But I'm not gonna sit here and list my credentials to a Slipknot-loving fag like you !
:flame:

Oh, and Mariner, You can include yourself in that last post too,
WANNABE!!!!!
Just remember your the ones who brought on the fire. I'm simply returning it to you and I'm not about to invest the two IQ points
it would take to have a battle of wits with either of you because it's just not worth my time. I said my two cents and got out and you two found it necessary to tread on me........BIG MISTAKE!!!

My points-
1-A lot of you guys sound like idiots calling each other fags. It sounds really juvenile.

2-I don't care about Slipknot's image, I enjoy music for 2 aspects. First being the quality of the music, second being the quality of the vocals/lyrics. This guy admits that Slipknot has neither, so therefore I think they suck.

3-
That's why I laugh at anti-Slipknot supporters saying Slipknot sucks because they have poor lyrics, as if they expect that Slipknot is the type of band that will write poetry or songs about "swimming in a vortex of apathy".

Didn't Devin Townsend say that exact same thing a while back? The vortex of apathy part.

this thread is getting pretty intense. All I have to say is that I do not like slipknot. When I first got into heavier music I will confess that I purchased their first cd but after getting into Opeth and other bands that are really good I can no longer listen to them. Also someone said that their music is pure aggression or something like that. Lol, if you want pure aggression then checkout Bloodbath's "Ressurection Through Carnage". You all probably know about this album I am merely reminding you. The guitar riffs, lyrics and drumming will rip apart anything slipknot has done heavy wise, IMO.

I mentioned that Slipknot where pure agression. Let me reiterate. Slipknot are agressive from a lyrical and attitude perspective. I'm not sure pure is the right term, but you can't deny that they are, or act like, some extremely pissed of mutherfuckers.

Bloodbath on the other hand, are aggressive, but have a much more measured approach. As in their music seems more carefully orchestrated and focused.

I hope this makes sense.

hehe fun to see you're offended because i said Slipknot is good, and because i was right about the masks. whatever :)
let I teach you some manners:
1. Never tell things that are untrue (lyrics are decent, you wont accept that because real metal heads dont listen to commercial music. and now you will deny that of course)
2. Be a bit more sincere (the im in metal since1985 is a bit over the top)
3. People are allowed to have a mind on their own, and as long they are making sense you dont have the right to insult them.

Yes that does, thanks for clearing that up. I agree with you they do have a more measured approach to it.

The only thing I saw of Slipknot was a clip in MTV once, and it was damn fun!!! I even liked the drums, very agressive. The masks are indeed fun to laugh at. The interview also was very fun though I don't know the band. The comment on Opeth was VERY wise for the guy to prove his argument, and BTW he seems to be an ecletic metal fan.

"1.3.6. If you admit that Slipknot's music is inferior in some aspects, why do you still listen to it?
Why? Because I listen to Slipknot expecting nothing groundbreaking or technical whatsoever. If I want to hear blast beats, I'd plug in Funeris Nocturnum. If I want MENSA lyrics, then I'd plug in Bal Sagoth. If I want technical guitar stuff then I'd plug in Spastic Ink. But when I listen to Slipknot, then I listen to them just for PERSONAL satisfaction. I'm not going to explain what I like about them -- I don't have to, and that's for me to know only."

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, I admire this guy. Fuck the purists, fuck categorization. I like System of a Down's Chop Suey!!!

(serious!)

good! i like people who are not afraid to hide their musical interests. though everybody his thing, if you dont like it, i dont care. you do like it? the better. but if you tell shit about people who are listening to sth that is crap in your eyes (@ CliffEmAll) youre sinking very low for me.
Let everybody defend the music they like. You can argue about it (thats where musicboards are for), but dont piss people off because you dont agree with them. and Cliff tried to do that and I counterattacked, but gotn't any reply so far...

Not a big fan of Slipknot, but a lot of my friends in TO were into them.

Note: were. Not are. They've somewhat fallen off the face of the earth, not that I mind.. I think the world may be ready for something a little more serious.

That being said, I also like System of a Down (and punk, ska, reggae, jungle, folk, classical, etc etc).

Oh yeah, and in terms of "extreme" metal bands, Opeth is indeed becoming mainstream. Posters in guitar magazines, sold-out headlining tours.. doesn't mean they'll start playing it on MTV tho. :p

1. If your guitarist is too hammered to get on stage, stick someone else in the jumpsuit and mask and let the show go on...

2. Some measure of protection against beer-can flinging purists.

any others?

1. No joke. when Maiden played for the first time in Belgium, Clive Burr was pretty sick or injured or sth. Anyway he couldnt play, so Nicko Mc Brain (yes!) put an Eddiemask on and played instead of Clive :o :)

and for 3.
They dont want to be recognized on the street because otherwise NUmetal-teens will throw beer cans at them.
