Albums you like that most people hate (2008 edition)

Dying Fetus - Everything (I hear a lot of people don't like them, but I think most of their stuff, particularly Killing on Adrenaline and Destroy the Opposition are brilliant... great well written death metal)
Dream Theater - Six Degrees
Iced Earth - Glorious Burden (not as bad as everyone makes it out to be)
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen
Cryptopsy - Once Was Not was pretty good

AJFA is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion.

I actually quite like Iowa by Slipknot. Which I'm sure alot of you will gob at me for admitting.

And I like Fate of Norns, Verses The World and With Oden On Our Side by Amon Amarth as well. Not sure why they get so much hate, to be honest.

I also like Black One by Sunn O))) and Disco Volante by Mr Bungle. Though I don't know if they are particularly hated, or just too obscure/niche for people to really give a damn about.

I'm pretty sure it's pretty widely recognized as their worst album. I myself have never heard it, but I don't really care to either.

At the Heart of Winter is pretty good stuff. Battles in the North is decent but the production bothers me quite a bit.

my friend Greg. he's a huge Immortal fan and actually liked Blizzard Beasts better than Damned In Black

I'm inclined to agree. Blizzard Beasts is actually not that bad, and Damned in Black sounds like a collection of hastily recorded b-sides from the latter-era recordings. It pales in comparison with the two albums around it and isn't really worth the effort.

Where i live And Justice For All is considered their magnum opus

Personally I really do not know many people I would consider metal fans, but the ones I do know usually agreed with what you just said. I think it's their best & I've turned some people on to that album back when I was a kid.

It sucks that Cliff died. I know he wrote a few sections in some songs, but he really was not an integral part of the band. I happen to like Kill 'Em All 2nd best of their albums, & Cliff didn't write shit on that album. The sound of bass never was an important part of their music.

Though you can almost take any album by Dimmu Borgir, a favourite of mine is indeed "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia". Criticized often for its lack of 'black metal-ness' I think that's what makes it a great album. I love the symphonic parts, the seemingly slight industrial vibe found on some songs, suitable production values, variety, and really everything about the album.
