Another "How to properly growl..." thread.

Can you tell me what you think of my 3 different types of extreme vocals? First one is a growl, second is a scream, third is a gurgle.

I can't get singing lessons ( because I can't afford them ) but I was wondering if someone could explain to me how to figure out how to properly scream.

I constantly hear " don't scream from the throat, scream from the diaphragm " but it doesn't make sense to me because the grit doesn't come from the diaphragm. Can someone explain to me what they mean by that?

And if you just mean to push from the diaphragm, I've tried that and I get more volume but my throat still hurts, and it still sounds craptastic.

Aside from the usual

How the fuck are you supposed to do Gutterals? same way as every other growl? cause' I cannot get this shit happening.

Don't think I've seen it properly explained yet.

I don't think so either. There are SOOOOOOOOOOOO many different ways to do them. The really hardcore ones are done with inhales (where you can get deeps and highs). I have a lot of friends in goregrind bands and they all do fairly quiet inhales that they just up the sound on. For devourment style gutterals, it's exhales but with your lips rounded, your tongue on the roof of your mouth, and your lower jaw projected forward.

That's my say - I've done them before but it's not really my style.

Inhales (FYI - the drummer does all his blasts with one hand)

Ok perhaps Gutterals isn't what I'm looking for lol. I hate the sound when people do that.

I mean that I want to get the 'gurgle' type thing happening with my throat like Glen Benton. Is it just a really deep growl? or is it a form of gutterals with more power and range.

Right everyone, I'm back, and this time with growls that you can hear! You also get to hear my annoying voice at the start, so meh. Any feedback? All is appreciated.

There is some distortion at the start, so I moved away and it stopped. Also, I run out of breath a bit towards the end, still need to work on my breathing.

Really? I'm presuming that you don't mean the volume (as my growls are louder than my speech) but the actual sound of them, ah well, apart from them sounding like whispers what do you think? Anything to work with there? I'm trying not to over-do anything at my age but times like these I really just wanna practice until I either brake my voice or get it right.

What do you mean by cupping the mic? Cause during band practice I wrap my hand over most of the mic when I do growls, otherwise you cant really hear it. My growls are loud too. It could have something to do with the fact that I usually stand like 6 feet away from the guitar amp though.

Cupping the mic is cheating to me...if you can't growl or scream loud enough to be heard through the mic...or need to max up the volume then you need to practice more imo.
