Finally... I'd say the songs sound strangely similar at first. Some thoughts:
Bodom Blue Moon - Very creative atmosphere for the song title... I expected this to have some total win melody going on, but it's grunting heavy. The thing that creates the right feeling for the song title in this sample is the echo in Alexi's vocals creating an atmosphere of a barren land where you can see nothing but the moon. Technically you could say this is Blooddrunky, BUT, this heavy riffing is somehow atmospheric. There's some keyboards in the background I'm sure. Sounds fucking good, I like the sample. Makes me want to go to a forest in a car at night to blast this song... Night atmosphere.
Your Days Are Numbered - Disappointed with this sample. It doesn't deserve to be called the fastest Bodom song if there's nothing but screaming over a basic beat and useless riff! I hear some useless guitar wankery that's nothing new, non-personal and non-atmospheric. It's clear now this is the weak element of the album, basically what the reviewers complained about, the occasional boring moments. However, these are just random samples and I can't wait to hear the full thing. Anyway, clearly this is not another SNBN. Maybe this sample just isn't the best one, but I'm happy with all the other songs.
Dead Man's Hand On You - Strangely comforting soundworld, enjoyable to listen to. The part starting at 4:02 sounds cooool. Sounds like one of the best songs. Night atmosphere. Gentle and creative playing around with atmosphere. Nice.
Still missing some more epic ideas, but let's see how the songs turn out. These are just short samples. There's still a couple interesting songs, Damage Beyond Repair is said to include one of the best Bodom riffs, while All Twisted is said to be one of the best songs.
This album has potential to be my 3rd favourite Bodom album after FTR and HB. The soundworld is nicely atmospheric and heavy.
