Dio Tribute "All the Fools Sailed Away" Song Discussion

I was thinking about programming a little orchestration for this track as well.. maybe a cello/viola duo underneath the clean guitars in the intro verse and bridge or something.. I'll fiddle with it and try and post a sample when I find a decent free orchestral vst..

Hell, I might just orchestrate the whole thing for practice and we can just use anything everyone agrees on from that haha..

Paulie: good idea with orchestration! I like it much. and i can always run it through EWQL platinum and Kontakt 4 VSL if needed:)

mephisto_loh: I'll do it with pleasure. Just give me some time to create a tidy project with all the tracking and i'll upload the multitrack for you to mix:)

vespiz: there is some cool synth brass riffing along with guitar. that might demand some keyboardist's brains:)) but even if you do only the solo, it will be supercool.
DanLights: nope, nothing again. we had a discussion with Paulie. he'll do the riffs if we won't get anything from Raptor (he promised already tracked yesterday or new tracking this Saturday). Really stupid situation, i'm already mixing rythmsection, but it's hard to mix metal without riffs)))

I figure I'll just track them all either way, so just in case we don't have anything by sunday, they'll be done.. I'll do DI's and Printed tracks.. I really liked the sound of his 7-string tracks though :-(..

Might borrow my girlfriend's brother's Gibson SG for the dirty tracks :-D

I'll finish the tracking Tomorrow/Sunday and get the orchestration done tonight.

Max, I'm thinking you should reamp all the rhythm/lead tracks, everything i recorded sound too limited/compressed coming our of my amps record/di output.. so I'm just tracking DIs at first.. I did three tracks, right/left/thickness.. black album style haha..

Anyways, tracked the whole first half of the song, saved.. finished tracking the second half of the song... pushed save... computer froze.. totally f'n gay.. gotta do the last verse/chorus/interlude again haha

Can't wait to hear this whole thing together haha!

Paulie, I'll do it with pleasure. I wanna try Mesa Mark IV into two new custom built cabs - both oversized 1x12's, one with V30, another one with Greenback. Interesting:) I wish to do something not too overused these days, soundwise.

I love the MarkIV actually.. and you shall be very happen with the following link, haha!

Give it about 30 minutes to finish uploading.. Intro is double tracked, Main Clean and Dirty Parts are triple tracked (except for the parts under the solos)..

Used a mix of techniques for the clean parts.. I put a readme txt in the zip to explain..

Let me know what you think dude.

Hot damn that solo is difficult! Some jazzy stuff going on there, I'm way out of my comfort zone! So cool.. :D

dude, I'm diggin your keyboard work on the other songs.. can't wait to here this solo!

-P

Oof peer-pressure! I got the notes down and the fingering, now I just have get it up to tempo..
Let's see if I can get it done before the deadline, if not, then I'll have to .. *gasp* program the damn thing!

Okay..

Syn Brass 1 & 2 are the same lines, played with 2 different synths to beef it up.
Syn Misc contains phased strings for the intro & the middle acoustic part, verse brass and choir for the end.
BG Vocs.. well.. ;)

The solo is stacked on the 3 tracks, just to save space and down/upload time.

Notes:
- All files (hopefully) sync with the mp3 posted earlier.
- Use these as you see fit.
- Some of the ends of the (long)lines maybe need a little bit of fading out.
- I liked the phased strings when I put them on 100% wet hall reverb, smoothed out the sound very nicely.
- The end of the song, fade out or ending with that "Sale away"? If it ends there, you can just cut the last chord into place as needed, I tried it and it works ok.

Instruments used for sounds: Roland XV-5050, RS-505 (+2 Behringer Vintage Phasers [Small Stone copies]), Yamaha CS-80.
