Dio Tribute "Long Live Rock and Roll" Song Discussion

Thank you:)
Got your vocals, importing them. I think all that "allright and rock n roll" will sound cool performed by you:) I'll try singing some interesting harmony over your improvisations or something:)

Sweet! I'll track those after I'm done with 'Dream Evil'. Trying to sing in Dio's high pitched and LOUD gritty vocal style makes my voice give in FAST!

I need to stop smoking.

Yeah. same shit with Rainbow in the Dark. It always sounds like a piece of cake when you're listening. Yeah, RIGHT.
On the other hand, the tribute gave me lots of experience. I discovered that singing Dio is one of the toughest tasks of a rock singer. That's another good thing he left us. A huge knowledge base. We can explore it.

I waited for the guitars in the mix, I'll get on it soon. I chose a second verse as well but I'm not sure if we have enough singers now to do a split every time so I can go with something else if you want. You could post a karaoke version anyway... Maybe it would be cool if I sang it an octave below you.

Just one more thing - it sounds like you autotuned too much at times (1:17)? You're an awesome singer I don't think you really need it, if that's the case.

Rip-G: karaoke version coming up!
And no autotune at all (I use melodyne on many singers I record and sometimes I use it to align my/their back and lead vocals in time, but I do not tune my takes, I used to but I prefer making more takes now) - it's my singing manner. Sometimes the note just sounds without initial pitch tilt.
Once I've recorded a girl who had the most wierd singing manner: Her folds seemed to switch from one note to another (not often, but systematically) like she had Cher option built in her throat:) She DID sound like a vocoder. And she was a nice singer, btw:))
Anyway, thanks for calling me awesome singer, man. It makes me feel a little bit confused, but pleased:)

Hey Max isn't the 3rd verse available? I guess Rip-G could have the 3rd verse since we're going with a verse per singer. I'm having a hard time with those ad-libs ("Alright" & "Rock n Roll") and I think it's best if you do them. I could try something different, like how it's done on the Steel Dragon version.

The mix sounds great! I just noticed the Zakk Wylde-esque harmonic squeals going on :D

The B3 is a bit too loud to my taste. Which is weird, considering everyone always wants their instrument the loudest! :)
Also, I'd like some room sound on it, pretty please? :D Not necessary, but.. you know..

Gladly!:)
I'm just used to lots of B3 in Deep Purple etc. And here we've got guitar double track, so it's less room for it. So i made it louder:) Yeah, I'll hide it just a bit under gtrs and give it some room (and probably make the mix a bit more roomy)

superfreak: as i remember, no one did verse 3 yet. I did verse 2. We haven't got plenty of singer, so someone singing verse 3 would be very very nice:)

Max, sorry about the autotune thing, I know it can sound that way sometimes : ) I'll judge the mix with vocals present but so far I like what I hear. It's modern and maybe a bit sterile but really... why not?

I did the third verse but it's really not my range so I changed lines a bit. I didn't want to force myself like I did on Kill the King. If you guys are OK with this version I'll send Max the files. I also did the chorus an octave below but this shouldn't be a problem.

Rip-G: oh never mind!:)

Speaking about your vocals on this song: low voice sounds much more natural, definitely, but it's too much unexpected for me. I loved the way you were in the middle of the spectrum (woooord around etc). I'd love if you'll do more that mid-range, it will sound more hard-rockish. But it's ok even now.

So if other members decide it's fine, i'll mix it.

I've tried to sing more in midrange but the notes won't allow me (or I'm not smart enough to figure it out). Also I wouldn't like to change the lines more than I did already as it would go even further from the original. I suppose this kind of thing is to be expected with different vocalist in one song... If we would have Lemmy in here, we wouldn't force him to sing all this with clear voice would we? : )

Rip-G your vocals sound fine. Kind of reminds me of how JP Leppaluoto of Charon sings his lines, of the covers songs, in the lower octave with the band Northern Kings.

MAX.. MIX! hehe

Max, you've received my files? Right? I'm not trying to rush you I just wanted to make sure you've got the email / PM because you've didn't respond in any way.

Uh, pardon, Rip-G! Had several serious issues with my ear. I DID receive the mail but just did NOT think out that I should answer something - because of my condition. Sorry.
I'm regaining my hearing at last and very soon I'll be in shape to mix all the stuff.
Bloody doctors. They first told my my nerve is dying and i'm going deaf. Proposed healing. It felt reasonable to me because that's what i felt - hearing worse and worse. Having panic fear of even moderately loud sounds. Etc. Thanks God I found another specialist. Now my hearing returns to normal.
