Wankery is always bad becuase it usually devoid of emotion, which makes it tantamount to noise. However, in the very few instances where fast shredding is not without emotion (eg. Necrophagist), only then can it be appreciated and admired.

I said I find a lot of their stuff pretentious (although maybe it was too strong a choice of words, boring would have been more suitable) although their fans have a great hand in changing or at least influencing my view on the band. Yes I am that shallow, now blow it out your ass. There's also a lot of Opeth stuff that I like.
And to be honest, I do enjoy CoB, not counting the last album. No fan, once was though and I'm not ashamed about that.

I know this is an Opeth forum, yes, but I don't say the band sucks as a whole, just there are some parts about the band's music which i absolutely do not like, opposed to parts i absolutely love to death. I could go on and talk down on Opeth, but that is exactly not my point in this post and I do not wish to do that. My point is that there MAY be a chance that Opeth is SLIGHTLY overrated.
